I have the old model of surfmaster pi. And I want to know if there are difference of depth with surfmaster pro. The gain control is equivalent to pulse delay?

Be aware that there is the original Surfmaster PI and there are now two version of the Surfmaster PI Pro. The original Surfmaster PI if set up right will get 8 to 9 inches air testing on a nickel. The first version of the Surfmaster PI Pro will get 10 to 11 inches air testing on a nickel. The 2nd version of the Surfmaster PI Pro will get 12 to 13 inches air testing on a nickel. But I have seem one of them get 14 inches air testing on a nickel. Whites appears to be upgrading the Surfmaster PI Pro when you send one for repair. But I did not know if they do this all the time.

the same as a pulse delay.

The gain is a sensitivity control, and in the case of the Surfmaster PI Pro it's in the final stage of the receiver.

A pulse delay controls the delay period between when the transmitter shuts off, and the receiver turns on. This is not user selectable on the Pro model. You do have a pulse delay on the earlier Surfmaster PI, before the "Pro" model.

I wouldn't hold my breath looking for another one of those to perform like that. I hope you held on to the 14" one. :)

Hi Terry, how you been ?

Bill

The one that gets 14 inches on a nickel belongs to a local friend. A lot of people bring their Surfmaster PI to me so I can increase the audio volume. I also check the internal adjustments to make sure that they are correct or adjusted as needed. I have not had a Surfmaster PI for over two years now. Still using my Aquastars because there still is nothing that will match them for depth on gold items!
