AT Gold Depth

I have a new at gold and I was wondering what kind of depth it gets on coins and cw bullets? Also how much deeper would the 11x8.5 get over the 5x8 coil? Is it worth buying the 8.5x11 coil ?

If you're doing much field hunting and it's relatively clean ground AND your arm can handle a little more weight, the large coil will buy you an extra two inches or so. My sites tend to be trashy, so the 5x8 has been ideal for me due to it's outstanding target discrimination. I'm not too scientific on depths, but I regularly dig targets in the 6" - 9" range, sometimes more if it's moist and the soil is open. If you're hunting old homesites, a lot of the guys really like the small coil for picking through the iron.

In a wide open clean field, and depending upon conditions. you may get an extra inch depth or so. There are many, many posts on the depths of various Garrett coils on this and other forums.

I use the 8.5x11" coil for Civil War relics in the woods and fields where trash isn't a big factor, it does add a 1" or 2 " in depth. When I use it I run all metal so I know I'm getting max depth I've dug bullets over 10" using this setup. I am now looking at also adding a NEL Tornado coil for relic hunting.
