Although I haven't hunted with the AT Max, I can tell you that the threshold is adjustable. You can turn it to zero, which is silent search. Another tit-bit of information about threshold, is that when applied on Garrett PI Detectors like the Sea Hunter, ATX and Infinium, the more threshold you add, the deeper the coil will read. Not so with VLF detectors.
