I got a new AT PRO 2 days ago. Took it out to the Man Cave and put it together, took another quick look at the manual and fired it up. It went crazy, making all kind of racket. I took it outside, ground balanced it and made a few swings. This machine was still chattering like crazy so I tried decreasing my sensitivity, this didn't make any difference. There was no way I could hunt with a machine that was this noisy. I took it back inside to try some air tests, needless to say my air tests were also disappointing, the distance I was getting on different targets was comparable to my ACE 250. Just so you know I am a relic hunter so depth is high on my priority list, that is one of the reasons I bought the AT PRO. Well I was feeling mighty disappointed right about now so I had a few cold beers and went in the house. When I got home yesterday I grabbed the AT PRO and headed to a field I have been hunting. I turned it on and to my amazement there was no chatter, I ground balanced and set my sensitivity wide open, still no chatter. I went down one notch on sensitivity and started hunting. I found a few bullets and the usual junk but the AT PRO operated flawlessly, no chatter at all. I was starting to wonder now what was going on. When I got back home I went back out to the garage and turned on the AT PRO, it went crazy again. The only thing that could cause this was EMI and believe me EMI will screw the AT PRO up, I guess it must be the higher frequency of the AT PRO is more susceptible to EMI because I have never had any issues with the ACE 250. I still need to repeat my air tests but this time it will be away from any power source. Just wanted to put this out there for all you new AT PRO owners. I had seen some posts on the forum about EMI and how it would disrupt a detectors operation but I never expected it to make a metal detector go crazy like mine did...............Bill in NC
