AT Pro Behavior Normal??

Hendrix

New member
I'm having trouble with my AT Pro going off on metal objects off to the side. It is making pinpointing difficult as it will often max the bars at or before the point where the object gets near the edge of the coil. Is this normal.

This is a link to a video of what I'm talking about: video of behavior

Is this normal?

Yes this is normal. Read my post here that I almost missed a gold ring because a aluminum can was very close by, barely allowing me to just get a hint of a different target.

If you are going to be searching in very trashy areas it is well worth investing in the 5X8 DD coil, and maybe the Super Sniper coil. Swinging slow and really getting a tight wobble swing on a signal is very important to keep in mine. I wish I would have had a camera filming the ring find..it would have been a great example of what I am trying to describe. I doubt the standard coil could have picked it out.

YES. If you get close to metal such as a backstop, bench, etc. while detecting they will be detected too. You can try turning the sensitivity down. A smaller coil helps too. The DD coil also has a field above the coil as well. If you run the coil under a metal bench and the field reaches up to the bench it will be detected and interfere with any items that are in the ground. Again, a smaller coil and or reducing the sensitivity will help. I get much closer to fences and under benches with the 5 by 8 DD coil. I believe Garrett has a diagram on their site that shows how the different coils work.

The 8.5 X 11 inch coil is very sensitive on my at/pro. Drives me nuts sometimes, but until I can get the smaller coils, it will just have to do. I turn my sensitivity down pretty low sometimes, but worry that I'm missing deeper targets.

What I do is hold the coil directly above the target a few inches then hit the button to retune it.
