at pro hype

[size=large]based on what i've seen on you-tube and the garrett web site the at pro looks to be getting an awful lot of hype before anyone has even held one.
the one complaint i seem to see is still held over from the main design is lack of balance. garrett may have been listening to everone but still didn't address the bad balance on the new 350 or the pro. i had to get rid of my gti 1500 cause i couldn't swing it very long with-out shoulder pain. the same goes for my ace 250. i kept it. for visitors. was almost convinced to get the at pro but probly won't. the competitor's answer to garretts is better balanced. i think garrett would have the perfect machine if they'd just learn to balance it.
the price for the higher freq. can't be beat but not worth the pain. looks great too.

Actually from what they said on the Videos people do have them in their hands as the International version was released in Europe a couple of weeks ago. As for balance the only way to balance it any better would be to put the battery under the armrest and since that would make for an additional waterproof housing to hold the batteries all it would really do is add weight to a really lightweight detector. Pretty much any detector that has everything mounted in front of your hand is going to feel/be unbalanced which is about 90% of the detectors on the market today. At only 3lbs nobody should get fatigued swinging it. If it is to heavy for you then you might try changing the 11" DD coil for the smaller and lighter Concentric coil. Then it might only weigh in at around 2.5lbs. If 2.5lbs is too heavy you might try spending some time at the Gym This is a featherweight detector for those of us who have been swinging Minelab's for years! Now they are an unbalanced and heavy machine most of which weigh in at 5+lbs! JMHO

Neck pain from swinging a Ace 250 or 350 ?........... there one of the lightness detectors on the market ?.... at 2.7 pounds ....the AT pro shows 3.3 pounds..... I consider 3.3 pounds a light weight detector

But then again I swing the 2500 for 4+ hours.

I see you have an XLT. Great machine but it weighs over 4 pounds. Have you considered a Garrett Gizmo to balance your Ace 250? Works on the Ace 150/250/350

I wish I had come to this forum for advice and started off with an Ace-250. The difference in weight between the Ace and the 2500 might seem slight to most people. To someone who's disabled, it's the difference between going metal detecting very often or not at all. After the 1st of the new year, I hope to decide on the Ace-250 or the Ace-350. That way if I have a problem with the 2500, I will have a spare to use.

As long as I have the 2500, I just can't justify buying the AT-Pro. I want one, but will have to go with the Ace next year. Unless, I find some nice jewelry or old coins. If I can get permission to search this one site, I'm positive it will produce some good finds. The sad part of this situation is people who have tresspassed on these people's property and dug holes and left them uncovered. This just adds insult to the injury of tresspass. I have about 7 different sites I want to concentrate on this fall/winter and spring and take it easy in the summer. I also have some alternate sites if these don't pan out or if someone has hunted over them before me. They did not have as many people congregate at the alternate sites, but you never know what you'll find.

I talked to someone about a treasure recently and he told me about these brothers who have been looking for it for about 10 years. I told him about the Garrett detectors and the Eagle Eye deepseeker coil for the 2500 and one for the Master Hunter lll. I wish them luck. Of course, he did not seem to know what I was talking about and if someone had tried to explain it to me before I got a metal detector and started using it, I probably would have listened politely and not known what they were talking about either. Of course, he may know more than I do.

Happy hunting with whatever detector suits your fancy or your pocket book can afford. Remind your better halves it's almost Christmas. lol

Yeah how much balance do you need with a detector that weighs three pounds or less. I've had a ripped up back for twenty years and the only Garrett detectors that cause me any problems is the 2500 and the Infinium. The 250 and 350 are as light as a feather.

I would go with the 350 since it's a souped up version of the 250 and just as light. Unlike most DD coils the new Garrett DD is light as a feather and a real pleasure to swing. The 350 is even a hotter coin magnet than the 250 and the new coil works great and pinpoints like a champ. In fact you don't even need to use the pinpoint button to pinpoint. It's that precise.

There were a couple of videos on Youtube of them demonstrating it at some big Detecting Rally over there on the day of it's release to the public. They were posted on one of the other Forums. There were two of them but they were very short and not really all that informative. Not nearly as good as the hour long video that was posted earlier this past week.

Seriously though......it's getting ridiculous here. How about picking-up the detectors we have, and posting about them and what we're finding instead of 50 new posts a day about something that was beat to death days ago?

[size=large]for the perfect among us you're welcome to the ace's and at pro's. i am disabled and sure didn't want to sell my 1500. yes the ace's are lighter. but not balanced. the xlt is very well balanced in comparison even though it's 4 Ibs. i measured myself fot the gizmo and it won't help me. i've short arms and the support hits me at the elbow. you do have a good idea in that gizmo. as a distributor i wouldn't think it proper for you to degrade someone because they might cost you a sale due to their being unable to use a garrett product and is contrary to your hype machine.

i don't make cracks about products. i have an opinion based on facts. i can only hope you get to swing your machines as long as you want and never suffer my disabilities. my detecting days were numbered til i found the Whites line of detectors. for now i am still in the hobby. remember hobby? it's for fun. dispite people such as you and a few others on this thread i'm going to continue to have my fun. but with a whites machine. Good for you. Just because your disability limits you on your detector choice does not mean they are gonna bend over backwards to make it perfect for everyone. I treat everyone the same I do not baby or coddle someone with a disability. It is upto them to figure out what works. To come on here and complain of balance when one has not tried it and complain people bash you is silly.

Everyone has problems and always will, you are not the only one in the world.

I have swung Whites since 1985. They and the other machines like your 1500 are balanced more central to your hand. But there is no way of getting around it - your still holding up the weight of the machine with your hand. I'm glad you've found what is best for you. It's possible to add a 1 pound weight under your Ace arm cuff and get the same effect of the "battery back" design of other makes and models.

Many are confused as I know two 4 lb. detectors that seem much lighter because of a combination of both. Of course combine the two for excellent ergonomics, heck I brought that up weeks ago and not a single peep from anyone else. It appears the weight of the AT pro is excellent but right from the get go it appeared not much weight in the rear to compensate for the rest of the unit. Of course even though the coil appears to be large its supposed to be a lightweight design..Many field testers accentuate the good aspects and downplay the bad and we all know no perfect unit as if there was everyone would be swing the same unit..In addendum until I hold the unit in my hands and swing for a bit lets not theorize what appears to be a fine product until the feedback starts rolling in...But again fine initial post and only time will tell...

The #1 thing for me (and almost everyone I'm sure) is being able to dig less junk. The AT Pro seems to help significantly in that area during field tests, but that still remains to be seen. I am still holding off on buying one until I get reports. My Ace has been kind to me, don't get me wrong, but it still can't tell a rotten nail from a quarter. And zinc pennies will chime-in as a dime 75% of the time. That gets old in a hurry I can tell you. And I don't mean to bust anyone's bubble, but just hop over to the Minelab forum and see how much good stuff they are pulling out of the ground every day. If I had $1300 to pi$$ away, I would have an Explorer SE Pro in my hands right now. And I have been trying to get a silver count from some of the GTI 2500 users but no one wants to respond.The proof is in the pudding.

And I'm certainly not buying into the "You better pre-order your AT Pro NOW!!!...Get one before they are gone..blah-blah...The best detector EVER !!..blah-blah !"

I agree, weight and balance are two different aspects and one can only be improved on the other so far as neither is too far from the other. A metal detector is a like a seesaw with your hand as its fulcrum. I have a GTI1500 and an Ace 250. Even though the GTI is heavier, it actually feels lighter because it's more balanced with some of that extra weight being on one side of my hand (the fulcrum) and the rest on the other side. Not quite as front heavy as the Ace. The Ace and At pro are light enough, all that's left for balancing is for Garrett to put the battery compartment in the end of the shaft! That would move about .2 lb from the front one side of the balance point, to the other side making it less front heavy. Hey I believe I've just had a Eureka moment. Just like the old David Alan Cole song, I think I have just wrote the perfect country and western song!
Don't know how that would affect the waterproofness of the at pro though.
