AT Pro NJ Beach Settings and soda cans

Can you guys give me any advice on NJ beach settings for the AT Pro.
Also can anyone tell me what the VDI number is for a crushed soda can.

Only two things I can help you with on cans. One is start lifting the coil, if the depth doesn't change after several inches it's usually a can. Sometimes there will be a quick low tone as you sweep slowly across the target in pro mode on each edge, can or can slaw or bottle cap. Otherwise they sometimes ring up in the coin range and drive poor detectors crazy. You can also follow the manuals suggestion of doing a manual ground balance slightly negative. Sure someone else here with more experience might be able to help more.

We also use a brass probe rod. A quick poke on the target gives you an easily distinguished can noise and we don't dig.

Can't help you on your beach settings.........but there isn't any one VDI # for your soda cans........would depend on size, type of can, plus age of can, and depth in the sand. It could run mid seventies to pegging the meter. If you get a super loud quarter, raise the coil higher than you can detect a quarter at and its more than likely a "soda can".

Soda Cans for me ring in between 80-86 and can be detected with the coil over a foot off the ground...if you hold the pinpoint and raise the coil and do not lose the tone after 6-8 inches...it is a soda can or other LARGE object...

on the beach settings, I liked pro mode, 0 disc, pump the coil to ground balance and it will.....even in the wet sand. Depends on the beach for your sens setting, you will be able to tell how smooth the detector runs.
There is no single number for a crushed soda can.
forget the ID, you will help yourself to just dig it all and pay attention to what it reads at and learn that way.
no easy way around it.

Stupid cans can sound like anything from zinc pennies to half dollars. If they are shallow, they have sort of a scratchy sound to my ears. Follow the advice others have given here and you should be able to weed out most of them. Enjoy the hunt!

it's easy to tell a can with a propointer
just hold it vertically and trace the size of the target

or edge it out with your coil to see where it starts and stops

tip your coil vertical and pinpoint as normal
it's weird but it works

make a long pointy brass probe and stab the sucker
it's obvious when you hit it what it is

If you want the VDI reading on a Crushed Can is simple , Go get you a can ,Crush it and pass your coil over it and there you go .Made simple, Happy hutting
