I detected all last yr with a Safari.....nice machein..BUT no comparison to the AT PRO that i own now. The Safari is very slow recovery time!! at least mine was. I did manage 40+ rings last yr with it but I expect more this yr from the ATP. And besides the AT is submersible. GET ONE you will see what I mean on the recovery time.

Good luck

ricstone I had to really think about this one before I answered. I had the Safari. It is one heck of a detector. I spent a lot of time watching the meter. Like wayupnorth said it was slow. It ate up batteries. 12 hours for 8 batteries. It was heavy. All the sounds it had. One needed some serious time on it to get it. I could only swing it for about 3 hours hunting and would go home exhausted. It got to the point that I didn't want to go detecting that much anymore.
AT Pro batteries run for very long time. 3 sounds. I can swing it 3 hours and go out again the same day. It is fun to go detecting with it. I got caught in a rain storm again today and stayed until I was done detecting the site. It is really good in trash areas with the 11" coil on. I detect tot lots with 11" coil. It works great on fresh water beaches. Wet and dry sand. Service is much better than Minelab's. When I think back on the detectors that I have had and wish that I had kept, the Safari isn't one of them. It was a fine detector but not a keeper for me.
Thanks for reading and HH....Z

What about dept? Will the AT preform as well on dept? An what about the headphone deal, Can i not use my Bees? Thanks for all the info:thumbup: ric

I sold my Safari and bought an AtPro. Why, because my Safari started singing in a foreign language that I never could decipher and just wouldn't shut up! I even sent it back to be checked out and they said it was ok. I started detecting several years ago with a Garrett product and just got use to the tones and couldn't adapt my brain to the Safari sonds. So, I would have to say go AtPro based on just my experience. But I do know a few other who bought their Safari about the same time I did and loved it? Confused now? Onus

Ric I was digging some deep holes with the Safari and coming up with some nice coins. At the time I had the Safari I was only doing beach detecting. I think (I think) the Safari will be the champ on depth of the two on the beach. With that said, I am an old guy on my wind down years. Most of my finds are in the 2"-5" range. I run the AT Pro 3 bars from minimum. Today I didn't dig anything my pin pointer couldn't pick up. That is about 1 1/2" deep.
I cut the cord on the AT Pro and use my Pro Golds.
