I ( we) have made the decision to get me one, downloaded the manual last night, starting to read it. Just a question of when we will be able to free up the $600. At the latest, should be able to take it out of tax refund which I usually receive in March. Since I live in Mass. that's probably just the right time to get me thinking of spring anyways. If the town I work for, and the union get their acts together, and ratify our contract, there will be a retro check, which should have enough left over for the purchase. If this happens, I will be hitting the saltwater beaches all winter. After once through the manual, it seems pretty straight forward, not saying I think I know how to set it up for a particular area, but that understanding the adjustments, and what they're trying to accomplish relative to hunting, makes sense. I think it may be an easier to use machine, relative to my Spectrum, for figuring out the types of adjustments, I'll be wanting to make. I'm like a little kid, waiting for his first fishing rod, haven't been this excited about one of my presents coming to me, in a long time. I like the Spectrum, ( have not had any other land machine to compare to) but cannot swing it for longer than an hour or two, before my arms are sore and tired. When I go to the beach, use my 1280 with the control box hipmounted, I can hunt for 4-6 hours, this is what I'm seeking from a land detector. ( the fact that this may become my water detector is just a bonus). I appreciate everyones replies, and am sure ( certainly hoping so) I will be pestering this chapter ( thread?) with questions by this spring. Artie
