AT pro vs. Ace 400

I bought a slightly used AT pro recently, and it has worked great for me. I really like using it, and it really isn't that difficult to figure out. However, I do want to buy a new one at some point, and just have the used one for a back up. That being said, I have been watching some youtube videos about the ACE 400 which appears to be just as good as the pro. I don't really need a machine that is water proof. Just the coil being water proof is good enough for where I hunt. Knowing this information, should I invest in a new ATP or go with the ACE 400 and save a few $?

Nothing against the ACE Series at all. I like the fact that deep signals are amplified so you can hear them. That allows you to hunt with or without a headset on. I had some great hunts in parks last year looking for coins and rings. The ACE 400 got them all. The AT Pro is a much better detector. It will get you more depth, and better target ID at greater depth then the ACE Series. It is water proof, so should you ever decide to take it in the water, you can. Kind of like two detectors for the price of one.

Why do you want to buy a new one? You have a couple of detectors which really compliment each other. Why not wait a while and put more hours on each of them. The each have their own language for targets, which you have to learn to really become proficient with them.

Good luck with whatever choice you make!

Leave my pro in the trunk of the car as a back up most of the time and swing an Old Freedom 3 Plus....newer is not always better then again it is what one is used to!

AT PRO gives you the pro mode, which means you can hear the the whisper of a deep target. You don't get that with the Ace 400.

Good Q.

I field tested both last year for Garrett.

My advice is keep and USE the AT Pro and instead of buying a second machine get a small accessory coil for the ATP.
I liked the Ace but didn't like the constant 'Bell Tone'
In Pro Mode on the ATP, you don't have that.

And, a strong rumour suggests a New AT Pro 2 in May
However, time will tell but it is overdue for replacement!

Just my 2c worth
