Attn Steve (Minelab 3500 and beach settings)

Hello Steve,

I hope you don't mind me posting this question here. The reason is I recall you once using the GP3500 and hunting the beaches.

My question is do you feel the 14" Mono style of coil is optimum (deepest seeking) in searching for coin/ring sized objects on mineral free beaches? I also remember reading that Eric Foster thought that an 11" coil was about the best size for this type of hunting.

I'd love to hear what settings you used on the 3500 or if you can point me to an archived response somewhere.

Thanks and much appreciated,
Tony,
Perth, Australia

PS......I have just found the article on "detector prospector". Sounds like the 11" is a bit too sensitive to the smaller trash.
Any other tips and tricks?

Hi Tony,

I am the last guy in the world to claim any special knowledge in tuning tricks and tips. The 3500 knowing me I just ran stock general settings and bumped gain as high as I could while keeping stable response. And 14" mono just seemed like a good size to use at the time. I would be surprised if a larger coil would not hit coin size targets deeper than a 14" but in a target rich location I do not like going too big.

In case anyone wonders what we are talking about Gold Nugget and Old Coins with Minelab GP 3500

Steve,

Thanks very much for your super quick response !

It gets me headed in the right direction.

Tony.

I have used my 2200, gp extreme and 3500 at the beaches here in San Diego County...the 11 inch will have you digging holes that have no end...if there is a lot of nails you might try the dd in descriminate...either way you will dig lots of junk...be careful as the stock coils are water resistent not waterproof...
