August off to a good start...

Howdy,

Had a bit of time today, so ventured out again. It was hot and muggy, so I didn't last too long. Gave me a good excuse to put the SE back into Ferrous sounds and move slowly through the iron. I set it up to reject crown caps and nails only this time, just to have a little less noise. It still was like hunting in the nail section of the hardware store!

I only recovered five coins, but all were old (the one Wheat that's hard to read is a 17-D). I was poking around in an overgrown/woodsy section, and was enouraged to find a few things in it. So looks like a good spot for the Fall perhaps.

Pulled nails out with a couple of the coins. A few bottle caps still squeaked into my recovery pouch, but that's the way it goes.

A Good Start indeed!! :super:

The iron patch sure keeps a lot of coins hidden. Glad you could sniff a few more out!!

Congrats,

Yes indeed a good start. I haven't been out in a while as work around the house has taken priority when I am not at work. Good work and thanks for posting!!

Just curious, did you use a tumbler to clean your copper, including the IH? Nice finds by the way especially the silver.

No, I only tumble modern stuff (clad, Mems). These were done with a toothbrush/soap/water first, and then I use Magic Eraser (which is melamine foam). It's not really an 'eraser', but a micro sponge that really gets down into the surface and lifts the dirt out. Doesn't scratch the copper (that I can see). If the copper has good surfaces (not pitted, and without the hard grayish crud on it), it comes out great. I used to use peroxide, but found that it darkens the coins. So I don't usually use that any more after finding what Magic Eraser can do.

Nice finds D.F.

Seeing the pics of dug silver with the dirt on it as it came out of the ground makes my hair stand on end.:clapping:
