Aunt was scammed out of $5K

Yeah, I know....and have said it before myself, people this gullible .....etc. etc. etc........

She got a call from a guy claiming to be her grandson who was in a Haitian jail and needed $5K to get out, and cried PLEASE don't tell his mom & dad (since that would have busted his scam). Well, he (her grandson) has been there in the past doing mission work so I'm told. She's close to him, so I'd have to think the voice was close-enough to fool her.

Long story short, she sent the money through her bank before checking to see if her grandson was even gone on a trip. She received a 2nd call a couple days later claiming to be the Haitian Government, and they'd be returning her money because of the "mistake". I told my cousin to tell her NOT to give them her account number if they claimed they needed it to re-deposit her money because they would likely drain her account, since they'd already found a "live one".

I tell my dad constantly to be aware of these scum, and not to fall for these scams and NEVER give-out any of his numbers.

If you have elderly family/friends, be sure you constantly warn them about this sort of stuff. I seriously doubt their gov is going to return her money, or that they are even involved. One could hope........but realistically odds are slim. The FBI are involved.
