Back and shoulder problems

Goldstrike

Well-known member
When I swing a detector for extended periods of time, there is one place in/on my lower right shoulder blade that gives me grief. Right now it hurts like H*LL and I'm off to the chiropractor first thing in the morning. I have been to a chiropractor and that only alleviates the pain for an hour or two. The pain has been with me off and on for months now.
I have a 'swingy thingy' but do not use it because it's one more piece of 'equipment that I just don't want on me but if this pain will not go away, I'll wear it.....Again, it's under the shoulder blade but my back and spine does not hurt. Anyone else have the same thing in the same area and what did you do for it?. BTW ibuprofen, Tramadol, icy hot, ice packs, hot water bottle does not faze it. I'm 61 y/o and retired, in great health and no other health issues and I really miss not being able to detect. I believe these type of pain problems (located in specific areas) are more prevalent among metal detectorists than we would realise.

GS, sorry that you're experiencing shoulder pain. I have experienced elbow but not shoulder pain when when swinging safari for extended periods of time, but I've adjusted by usually switch arms when fatigue sets in. I also shorten the lower rod several inches into the upper rod, so that the detector is closer to my body reducing arm extension. I prefer alleve over ibuprofen, but I'm not sure about tramadol. Hope it improves soon.

Thanks Ken for your concern! One things for sure, this won't stop me from doing what I and all of us love to do! digging:detecting: a gold ring or something equally exciting:clapping: will absolutely make me forget the pain....at least for awhile!!:LOL:clapping:

Wow, tramadol doesnt help? I think its time to ditch the chiro and see a MD.

I'd say switch arms, but it sounds like you have a specific acute problem that needs to be addressed. Hope you beat it quick!

If you think its a muscle and are going to the chiropractor anyway, tell him to put the electric shock machine on it...seriously, when a muscle cramps up to that magnitude, the only thing that relieves me is the electric shock machine and some flexerils. most chiros want to pull and tug and make another appointment, the quicker you are in and out, the better off you will be. Good Luck.

GS, yes, have the chiro try placing the electric shock pads as Mudpuppy suggests. It worked for my psiatica years ago. Accupuncture maybe another alternative. It seems to be helping me for a small rotator cuff tear from ice hockey years ago.

Thanks guy's for the advice! it's very much appreciated and I'll let you know how it works for me. In the meantime, have fun out there and H.H. & GL!

Might be time for a good lighweight unit. I have an omega and a quattro and u can feel the difference. Good luck Paul
