Back from the beach!

:)Hello all, I hope everyone has had, or is still having a great holiday break! We just got back from the beach, spending 4 days there detecting, and prior we spent 4 days on the Victorian goldfields nugget hunting. So, for now, I managed to get together a few photos of me detecting with the Excalibur, and my finds for the Excal and the Quattro. More photos to come later of the goldfields.

PS: all the Excal finds were from under the pier in the top photo!

That's terrific Golden! I'm so impressed with all the loot from under that pier too. I wonder why there was so many coins there? I know when I was a kid we used to dive for coins as the people threw them over the edge for us as they got off a ship on Catalina Island, just off the coast of Los Angeles. Maybe they did the same thing there? At any rate, the pics are great, the water looks wonderful in the shots where your snorkeling, and looks like you had a very productive time, and a good one to boot. Marc.

I guess with all the people walking or jumping off the pier into the water, over many years, you're going to get coins or jewelry coming off! At the end of the pier, on low tide, it was only about 4 feet deep, but on high tide, it rose a bit to make it more difficult to retrieve the targets. I had to put more weights in my weightbelt to keep me under, long enough to fan the sand and get those targets. I just used my hand to fan the sand, and carried a small canvas zippered pouch on the upper handle of the Excal, that was strapped on with velcro. It works great. As soon as I found a coin, just unzipped it, popped it inside, and kept going like that. I found the Excal a pleasure to use, very simple ans easy, a no nonsense detector, and the signals for the coins rang loud and clear each time. I didn't want to get out of the water, I was having so much fun. There are heaps of targets still out there, waiting for me! I was a bit surprised I didn't get any pre-decimals, as the pier is quite old. The top photo shows a ring with a fake diamond in it. The ring turned out to be junk, crome-plated in fact, but still exciting when I found it. And most of the targets were coins, hardly any trash there, near the end of the pier, but as I swam toward shore, the trash got worse, so I concentrated mostly on the deeper end.
