Hello all - sitting here in Louisiana tonight - for the next 5 days. If you have traveled with a computer , trying to hook up at the motels, then you know howuch trouble it can be. We couldnt get on the last 2 stops.
Anyway, I dug about 300 coins at one city, including a school class ring from 2005. It had the school and the person's initials inside so I took it to the school and they said the student would get it for sure.
On my first beach hunt I dug a ton of junk, some coins and a crucifix on a chain. Unfortunately, not silver.
HH to all and I'll now read the posts. Steve in so az

Hi Ron - Looking at being in your city next week Wed afternoon. I'll call yhou when we get there. I think I injured my hammer swinging hand Steve

Are you having fun yet? Good going on the returned ring!

Quite honestly, I seldom swing a hammer. I'm spoiled by pnumatic. I only use a hammer to pull or set nails.

west Texas the funner times started, pretty dry & barren of coins there. Doing family things next several days - not much detecting . Gotta pay the price Steve

Right next to the railroad. There is evidence of an old homestead. Complete with pottery, rail spikes, and old OLD glass fragments. Found a button there yesterday, problably nothing, but interesting just the same. Also found a new detecting buddy, a shift captain on OSPD. He swings a Radio Shack Detector, AKA "Bounty Hunter." I'll have to get him updated soon. Used to work with him on the police dept. At least we have backup. Kinda trashy though. We'll have to work it a little slow. Bring your detecting gloves! If not, they are right across the street at Wal-Mart for $3.96 a pair. Bought me a pair today. Travel safe!
Prayers always,
Ron

I was wondering where you were 300 coins? That's amazing.
So, how did you like hunting the water? Was that a saltwater beach or fresh? Did you go in or just work the sand?

Hope you have a great time and find a lot of gold on your trip. May your pouch be filled with gold and silver... To bad I'm not visitting my daughter about now, she lives in LA., we would be hunting for sure. Have fun and make lots of finds. God Bless..Happy Hunting

I always leave home with all my detecting stuff - gloves & all. steve

The beach isnt real long but I worked it for a couple hours. Never did get into the water - not ready for that yet. It's a fresh water place but directly comimg off the ocean through a long bayou or whatever.
Anyway, I did get some time in learning it - the sand near the water was very hard packed -like clay almost. I'll get a lot more beach time - 5-6 days straight - when we get to the Gulf next week.
Congrats on the silver you dug !!
Steve

we will be coming down here - 2 X per year -to see the family - one time maybe we can meet & hunt ! steve

congrats on the finds. Someone will be very happy to get that ring back. Sounds like you are having a great time - hoping the Mrs. is also.
Keep in touch Steve.
HH & Be Safe (and Healthy) - God bless us - one and all
Remember: Seek ye first the kingdom of God (Mt. 6:33)

You should do well on the gulf... Try to get there about 2 hours before low tide. Look for any cuts / errosion in the sand or channels near the surf line. You don't have to go in that deep... I usually work up to my hips; partly due to the fact that I don't swim If your Fisher has autotune, I like to work that and the sensitivity as high as possible with no disc. Just flip to "0" disc to check if it's iron. Dig everything else. If you run into any "greenish" coins, work that area well, it's the sign of old, deeper stuff. If you're finding heavy stuff like lead sinkers, it's also a good place to work.
As you work your line, look back at where you've dug targets. More than likely you'll see you're digging a straight line along the surf line. Concentrate on that.
Check out the place before hand and make note where it's the most crowded. Also look for blanket marks in the sand... tells you somebody just left. You can also work the line from the surf to the biggest concession stand; especially near the concession stand.
Near the high tide mark is not bad either. That's where mommy and daddy dangle their little kids in the water
HH and go for the gold (with a little sparkle perhaps??? )
