Back to the park. 5 indians, 1898 Chicago dog tag

Back to my spot for 3 hours today. 5 Indians 1881, 1887, 1892,1896, 1899. A 1896 V nickel And a no date type 2 Shield nickel (my first). My favorite find of the day was a 1898 Chicago dog tag. This is my oldest tag yet.
Also went out for 3 hours on Sunday. Managed 4 indians, 1899x2 1901 and a 1908. and a 1940D merc.

That Tag is worth some Big Bucks so if you ever sell it, remember that. Anything pre-1900 for Dog Tags is worth a lot of money. I wouldn't let that one go for anything less than $150. Who knows! It might be worth even more. That is a really neat looking Tag also. Congrats on that Great Find and also on all them other keepers you found. Continued Success, Good Luck and HH to you.

Nice finds Chicagoron and that's a great looking dog tag. It is listed in the 1993 book "Pre-1900 Dog License Tags" by William J. Bone, DVM. He said there are 9 of these known and that most pre-1900 dog tags are very uncommon and generally rare. He didn't give a value for it but I think it would do very well on eBay or to a collector. There's a group that collects animal license tags and they put out a newsletter called Paw Prints. I don't have an address for them but maybe you can Goggle them. Great finds and Happy Hunting!

Thanks James and TD for the information. I was more excited about the tag than my first Shield nickel. I love this spot, and I have hopes theres a gold coin out here somewhere!
Neal I sent an e-mail off to Diane. I'll let you know what she says as far as price. I don't know that I want to sell it. But if the price is right! LOL

Nice coins Ron.....they all appear to be in great shape. The dog tag is awesome!!! In the right hands it could be worth quite a bit of money. Great finds!
