Backplate for a Knob?

Out with the Omega at the ground site of an old building (late 1800s) that was torn down and taken away. It's just a vacant lot there now.

It's bronze. Maybe it's a backplate for a fancy knob on a cabinet drawer or door? It was about 4 inches down.

Any ideas?
