Backup detector

I designed one in the '90's that used Ultrasound.
Now old ladies can back up and not crush the garbage cans.
Wouldn't you know it that they are all now made from plastic?

As for the F75, I never needed a backup. But I guess an F70 would be close.

SJ

I never have found a need for a "back up" detector. I`ve never had one pack up on me ,or found the need to use another, other than the one i have had at any given time.

That's more what I was looking for... what do you use where you can't use the F75 (ground, EMI, wet sand, etc.). I have an EXII now...just wondering what others were doing.

that situation has never happened to me with the F75. Salt water, fresh water, high mineralization, and as for EMI or 'noise', if there is any present it will bust through the noise. Andy S. has a wonderful site to tell you how to deal with EMI, and generally all you have to drop the Sens. down below 99. You are making statements that real owners know as BS. What exactly are you trying to accomplish?
SJ

Are you sure you have a F75 because the way you are upset at Fisher, one would think you would have had posted your drama? I don't see any posts of yours saying you had a F75 after the 250 you could not use and did not like. Did you not have an F4? Did you get buyers' remorse because you thought the machine was all it is about? And why sell off a F75 under a five year warranty at a loss to turn around and buy the same again? Sorry but it just does not sound like the budget of someone buying low-end machines in rapid succession over the past year.
I am glad you like your ML. In two years there will a new model to upgrade to. Start saving. Or, start designing?
and,....happy hunting.

sunny jim!
sounds like perhaps a detector flipper!..more than a few out there!

First you call me a girl and then accuse me of lying? BOOOOOO! :puke:

Here you go again. You're thinking you've got crap figured out and posting drivel not related to the thread. Go to Dankowski's site if you want to see the "drama" (and Streak!'s - at least he tried to help - turns out something actually was wrong with the detector). You just can't post things like that here because some steroidal-know-it-all filled with insults will try to shut you up (sound familiar?) Don't think that because you've been digging in the dirt for umpteen years that you've gained some level of jedi knighthood with your detectors. It's not like flying a plane for crying out loud.

No one said they were upset with Fisher - you made that garbage up in order to incite an argument.

If you're hunting beaches in the South East, you're not finding a dam n thing except seashells. Get off the farm jimbo and try that thing in some downtown parks or in iron rich soil. Your far superior metal detecting cranium should, at a minimum, allow you to see that things might be different in different places.

Shoot, come to the midwest and I'd be happy to demonstrate.

 - that's ridiculous ... considering this site is full of folks suggesting people buy low end machines first (which I now know is a bad idea - if you have the money to buy the higher end). Also, I'm not sure Fisher wants you to classify the F4 as low end. Rapid succession...hahahaha. The other post also explains the F75 sale AFTER sending it in (under your solve all warranty) three times - maybe you had it figured out before you got to that part.

Maybe this will aid in your investigation:

THE THREE AMIGOS (I had to let the F4 go because "The Four Amigos" sounds like I'm lying )

In case you don't recognize the two on the left - that's the Yellow Dinger (far left) and the Explorer II (center) LOL

I have a T2 as my backup for the F75. It doesn't get much use since my F75 has been problem free, but I do take it out once in a while just to give it some air. The T2 is a great machine, but the F75 is my main unit.

OK Shamble I apologise and you win a very good brow beating, once again.
Being concerned and curious of your dilemma made me look for your earlier posts.
It does not matter much what you own or what you have owned, but that you are happy with what you own at the present moment. You have two very good and capable machines and the 250 is no slouch.

I saw a post you made in another brand forum, asking the same question here and somewhere you said you found the ML necessary in highly mineralized soil. I know of no condition in high (upper 80's) to low (salt water, like next to zero) that the F75 cannot handle. I know the geology of the Midwest and beside toxic wastes dumps, klinkers are it for high mineralization (unless you live in Newberry MI). I shoveled them there when I was a kid. That's why I said BS.
( yes, I worked on a steam railroad in the Midwest and did everything but pull the throttle)

Did you know the Atlantic is saltier than the Pacific? Lewis and Clark didn't, and boy did that mess with them. Did it make them angry? Yes. And what did they do? They killed each other to eat their livers.
No,.. afraid not, You gotta be tough to live out West. And they were.
Get over your anger. You came to a decision and moved forward. Why look back? Your anger does not say you are having fun. Well pal, it's been going around, and this is not a place for unhappy campers. Can we just enjoy the good of the hobby and a small escape from all the anger in the world? This is a smiley face place.

Sorry if I took it wrong, but you are angry and you sound like you want everyone to pay attention to your pain. Why do you fish for sympathisers? We are hobbyists, and want to enjoy a little fun together sharing ideas and insights and helping each other out. A few laughs and a pat on the back or an attaboy. We own what we like and we like what we own. All for recreation.

So how 'bout we bury the hatchet, build some civility instead of division and enjoy a recreational hobby for the smile and fun of it. If you want to have fun, go to a beach in the summer and when the kids come around make them a deal that each get to recover a target in the sand. X marks the spot for buried Treasure! I promise them each a coin of their own. Those kids are the happiest kids you will see except for the ungrateful. Can't help them if it is not fun for them, and they usually get the biggest coin! Being happy is a conscience decision. Be happy.

Hey, I've had some troubles with equipment and dealers that no matter what they ever did in sales were likely turds. I wanted to enjoy a hobby and not feel bad about it, even if the previous two machines to the F75 involved dealer scams. Why should I allow all that to let the air out of my tires in having and being fun? The smiley face forums are not the place for any of it. As poo-poo happens deal with it and move on. There is not a sports team worth their salt that does not know the value of shaking it off and moving ahead. You either try to score or you quit.

You have a three machines of your choice. Enjoy the hobby and have fun. Share your finds, insights, victories and firsts. Tell how you handled a challenging area or found the deep targets nobody else did. Most valuable find, most interesting hunt, best fun. If something is a question, ask it, even if the answers are opinions of others, but don't try to mine for unhappy people because you hold on to old issues. Let it go. Come to the happy forum place and be happy.

If you make a statement, don't expect everyone to carry the same tune. It is OK here to be an individual, as long as you are a happy individual. Dump your garbage on your neighbor's front yard and see how long that lasts. How have you helped anyone in pointing a bloody finger at Fisher? When you told Paul to get a ML, I thought you were another ML shill. Turns out you and Paul had The same conversation months ago. Paul just told me in a PM that he got a ML. He quoted a KellyCo employee that agrees with what you say is bad about F75's. I do not like that. If ML is hammering on it's dealers to push their product, then that is why dealers are dropping ML like a hot rock. So sad, Too bad, They are eating their own tail, faster and faster. I think it's great myself. Kind of like Moores Law as a business model. Their next product may be the Deep 6.

I do not understand what game that is with Paul, but it does not belong here. Since he did not buy your models,... do you see the only view he had was your red ***? Paul is entitled to be happy.

Hard times are here and it's time to protect the simple pleasures we all enjoy.
Put that into a marketing model!
Be happy!
SJ :)

No one's pointing anything at Fisher. If Paul bought something else - then his mistake. Depending on his financial situation he might be buying the F75 in time - because as I said in our last rant, it seems (based on detectors I've used) to be unbeatable in many places. If he bought an Explorer, he may find places his ML will null constantly and if he opens up the smart screen will get abused with inseparable tones. Shame on him for hiding in PM's instead of being honest with all of us. He's not the only one that takes that road as I have 3 recent PMs showing appreciation for my position. I certainly don't remember ever speaking to Paul prior to that thread .

Not acknowledging these machine's have issues under some circumstances sets the wrong expectations and causes people to dislike a manufacturer (check the bugalobob posts on the E-Trac forum). It'd be valuable to say "Brand X" does "this" very well but can't do "this" well. That allows people to make informed purchases, sets the correct expectation, and lets field testers and manufacturers see what people would like to see different. Those are all positive things.

Agreed.

My business puts me on the road often. If you ever find yourself in the midwest and want to dig with someone, let me know - maybe I'll be close by.

" so many detectors so little time"................Most ardent detectorists if they can afford it have more than one unit and all comes down to what works for them, their mineralization, outside interference, personal preferences and what type detecting they do. Fact of life no perfect detector and short and sweet hpoe this covers it while not causing a detector war of sorts..so I guess grab your favorite and go for it bearing in mind you do need a backup in case your unit goes down...Last fellow I talked to had 12 units but personally usually have two of one type or another at any given time and over the years having tried many find any of them have their give and take aways..

Back to the original thread...

My main unit is an F75 and I have no other detector. I cannot financially justify two units, let alone one. (Yes, SHE wears the pants!)

But if I had a backup, I'd have another F75 fitted with the small elliptical coil.

I took the wife and son with me on my first hunt and they both found all kids of cool stuff, so I got lucky :) Maybe we should plant stuff four our wive's to find so we can justify $1500 'tectors :)

Agreed Shambler,

Done with this.
Paul just wrote me he has had the new ML before he posted fishing for F75 snags recently.
Here is a link from months ago. Look here

He also told me kellyCo is now international and his price through them is very competetive to his regional dealers.
The snake eats it's tail.

Be safe on the road and you have a great family hobby, way better than sitting in front of the TV.

Best to you,

SJ
