Bad Metal detecting

Hi to you all and Merry Christmas. Went out for a short hunt today, Monday the 8th. I went to a new place (for me) a very nice community park with probably 6 or 7 baseball diamonds and several soccer fields. Got out of the car, got geared up and went directly to the nearest area to detect. Well don't you know someone had beat me to it. All well and good..it's not private property. I could see that someone had been there probably within the last week or so because the place looked like a prairie dog town. Almost all the plugs had been replaced, rather haphazardly I might say but upon closer examination, I found that whoever searched the place had left any junk he found on the surface. Didn't even have the common sense to clean up after himself. I'm sure it probably wasn't anyone associated with this forum...I just needed to vent a little. Yes partners, I cleaned up his mess as best I could, tamping down plugs and removing left behind junk. It's hard enough sometimes to get onto property to hunt without clowns like this messing it up for everyone. By the way Bud...whether you don't know your instrument or you're just a piss poor hunter, I searched in the exact spots you did and had a great day, only clad but a lot of it. For all of you who diligently follow the unwritten code...good on ya!

if it does i still hunt an area lol. the police wont arrest me no matter where i detect because i know the mayor of my town as well as the chief of police so they tend to stay out of my way.

I've seen that happened here countless times. Some of the plugs looks like they use a miniature rake..dirt an grass all over and missed pinpointing too. Other times I see plugs that were dug by a shovel and the plug is left out a foot away. I haven't meet these idiots yet but when I do his or her metal detector is going to be wrap around a tree. I like to see this hobby go on not ban. Also please don't use shovels in public parks...it looks bad.

With the holidays fast approaching there will be many new metal detectors put into the hands of people that have no idea of what they may do to our hobby. We need to be aware of this and when we see someone out there with shovels and making a mess we need to step in and help.
At one time I seen this guy with a metal detector out in the park with a regular shovel digging away. So I stopped and went out to see what he was doing, and if I could help him. He was happy to see someone that knew something more than himself. I left him with a older hand trowel after showing him how to dig a plug. Since then I have seen him twice and last time I talked to him he was happy to show me his plugs that he had just done. He also showed me all the trash he had taking out of the park.

I agree with you completely....didn't get a chance here...just cleaned up the mess and got on with life. I'm always ready to help someone out and, I expect, so are most of you out there. Good luck and good hunting.

Was hunting a beach in Florida few years ago. Noticed a hunter following right in my tracks, kept about 20 yards back. This went on for awhile. Finally I stopped and waited on him. Poor ole guy just got a at pro. Was hunting it in zero, sens max. Didn't know about pinpointing. And he was using a plug cutter, no scoop. Well tried to set him up, as best I could, but the guy was creeping into dementia. (Not joking) Last straw was when he insisted on driving. Pulled right in front of a truck to a gas station. Almost took out the pumps. I'm yelling ""What the ۩** !! " Then, THEN, he gets out and finds a Saq dollar coin by the pump. Gets back into the car, says, "Best find of the day!" I walked the 2blocks home.

I have had to clean up the ground a little at the city park. I am not sure if it is either 1 or 2 different people.
The plugs are poorly cut and the grass is usually dead or dying. Sometimes there is a signal over the plug.
I have re-dug a plug and found trash. This is only on a small amount of them. I have yet to see anybody detecting.
Hopefully they have done the whole park and won't be back. This park has been hammered for many years but I usually can get a few dollars in clad and some junk jewelry.
I am slow at detecting and have only done maybe 25 to 30 percent. I feel there is still some better treaure to be found because the park is 125+ years old.
