Ball field gives up silver and a military pin..

Pete in MI

New member
Found a lot of things...mostly trash...some rusty stuff. Did get 3 coins and a military pin (with back pin still in tact). Hope someone can tell me more about the pin. I think it is Army. Being former Air Force, what would I know

These are the goodies.

Check out the detail of this 1957-D silver Rosie

This is a closer view of the Crossed Rifles. (They seem different from what I have seen to designate Officers in the Army). Appreciate any info someone can provide on this.

Since Sherry was born in 1957, I gave her this as a late birthday present.

Here is some other items found:

Had to detect alone...Warthog wasn't around and Ken last I knew was out in MO or TX. Still was nice to get out. Did score another Wheatie and a Lincoln penny both in the 1950s.

Hope everyone else had some fun today.

what part or parts of the ball field do you usually find the goods ? I'm taking a mental survey, Steve in so az

That crossed rifles pin looks different than the ones I have seen and found. Might be some sort of replica? WTG on the silver!

Pin may be a WWII unit pin, with the bolt action and all. Interesting, none the less. Now, I really, really like that Rosie. That is in extra-fine shape.

Congrats on all the nice goodies, silver and the pin! Hope you find out more about it! :) God Bless! Betty

There is an opening from the ball field to the school which has produced some older Wheaties. Nearer the road is where the Mercs have been found. The pin was found about half way between the 2 areas just mentioned. In the far back there have been Wheaties and more recent coins. The front left area by the road produced the pocket watch remains. And near the middle there is a fair sized pine tree where Warthog found the Buffalo nickel and on the opposite side I found the 18k ring. Oh yeah the old class ring was in the front near the Mercs too. The other ring found was a little further up on the right side between road and opening to the school than where the pin was found. Hope that isn't too confusing. There seems to be patterns being established. Oh yeah also in the far right in the back was where I found the Proctor and Gamble token. Ken and Warthog have found coins back in the far left in the back of the field. This last dime was found in the back halfway between the far right and far left.

its got to be me or Ken. We are the only ones who know where this is at and hunt it. Seems for some unknown reason the rings are found the day after you have been there...you planting rings for me to find

bent in half almost. The school that used the field was built in 1924. Not sure when it closed its doors. It appears from all the light bulb screw ends I have been finding this may have been more than just a small school's ball field. Ken says he thinks the back area is where a football field was at since he found a valve stem for blowing up balls back there. The car parts found near the road make me think it was a parking area of say a community ball field. With all the bottle caps (crown caps) and sheet metal found, I am thinking there was at least one concession stand selling pop and beer.

Never know what will be found next. Still hoping for some larger coins as I haven''t found silver quarters or half dollars - yet.

nice pin, gotta love finding that silver, good digs

still unable to find any info on the make of rifle (maybe leading to a time frame or war they were used). Hope to have some answers as I wrote to a guy who has a website about bolt action rifles to see if he can ID the rifles used on the pin.

There are many differences between this pin and so many of the others. Makes it even more unique when there is less info or pics of it as opposed to an over abundance of pics of some other pins.
Appreciate the info. Being former Air Force we never had crossed rifles for any decorations or insignia.
