last nights bible class brought up baptism .We were disscussing
Acts 2: 37-47.Anywho, i asked Pastor Carmen her thoughts on baptism.Bein baptized at birth vs. baptism as an understanding and making a conscious choice adult.
My views lately have been, "how can an infant understand what they are doing?".."so, shouldn't i get baptized as an adult?".I'm only 4 years young in my relationship with Jesus now.
She feels that if you were baptized as an infant there is no need to make a decisive choice to do it again.
I came very close to bein baptized this past january until during the class, yes we had to take a class(!?), we were told to write out our testimony so that it could be "approved". I immediately thought, this is between myself and God and no one needs to "approve" my decision and i left.
I would like to hear what y'all think and have to say on this subject.

God gives to us faith to believe the gospel/evangel/good news of Christ dying for our sins.

I don't think baptism saves. But, hey, what would thoughts of a new age cultist matter anyway? :lol:
 
and after a while attending there they came to our house . They said they would like to baptize us. I said we have already been baptized in other denominational churches. But they said we needed to be baptised their way (Baptist church) or we could not join the church.

I said "In the Bible it does not say one has to be baptised to get into heaven. But it looks like it's harder to get into your church than into heaven".
They didnt have any answer to that . We never joined. steve in so az
 
So Steve, am i understanding that you have been baptized more than once? In different denominations ? If so, can i ask why ? I'm jist tryin to learn here.thanx.

A weblog about Baptism. You do well not to confuse 'feelings' with 'what the Bible says'. Many try to bend the Bible to meet their lifestyle instead of changing to what the Bible says to do.

Trust the Word...not feelings.

I was referring to my wife's denomination and to my different denomination in years past. Sorry, I know it sounded like plural baptisms - but just once for each of us. When a child is baptised it is securing a place in heaven. Later on in life I would think the child would want to be baptised again when it is fully aware of things. Just my feelings - nothing that I know of in the Bible to show that. steve
 
the minister puts his hand in 'the bowl' then onto the child's head and mutters whatever...everyone applaudes and everyone is happy.

There is NO water in 'the bowl'. Baptism isn't done without water and baptism isn't 'sprinkled'. What did the minister think of baptising without water...maybe he thought he was 'dry cleaning' for the Lord??????

Spoofy things people do and not according to the Word. Beware of those who mislead others - they will be judged.
 
Pastor Carmen kind of explained it like this.She said that in her view, a baptism is similar to a dedication in that, the parents and all who attend make a promise before God to dedicate this child to Jesus and to dedicate themsleves to a life of teaching the child the word of God, also to take on the responsibilty of keeping this child in Jesus' path for as long as they may have access to that child.When she put it that way, it got me to thinking that i know for a fact that my parents did not do thier part in bringing me up a Christian.in fact, they taught me absolutely everything oposite of a Christian through thier bad examples.That in itself is why i question as to wether or not i should go with this desire i have to re-dedicate myself to God thru baptism.She answered this with a "NO".And..oh jeesh, for the life of me i can't remeber how she explained it.
Anywho, i think what i'm gettin at is...do i get baptized again and grow from there or do i accept my baptism at infancy, take on that responsibilty myself anf grow from there ?Again, i am not attempting to start a debate. i am just looking for help in understanding baptism. Keep in mind, when talking with me you are talking with a child very new in his relationship with Christ looking for guidence from fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.

I think - why not start anew again in the Lord with a baptism ? Pray about it and follow what the Lord lays on your heart, steve

...infant baptising...same as Jim West's pastor...dedicating, publicly, the child to the Lord. A child is saved until they reach the age of accountability, whenever that is.

According to my understanding of the Bible, baptism is our public testimony of accepting Jesus Christ as our saviour. It is not a requirement for salvation. Baptising symbolizes the washing away of our sins by the shed blood of Christ.
 
I would say NO, Christ shed his blood for the salvation of ALL.It is up to you, individualy to accept it.
