Barber dimes----Hat Trick!!!!!!

First of all I would like to thank Ray-mo for for being such a great host to me and taking me to some great hunting spots. We had a great time and and he is one top-notch class act individual.

Ray and I finally got to hook up for a last minute trip, we talked for the first time and in less then 10 minutes, I was headed up for a 2 hour drive to meet him:shrug: We started out at an old park that gives up very few coins now, but we wanted to see what the Minelabs could do there. It started out slow with the first keeper for me coming about 2 hours later. It was the 1902 Barber dime down a good 8" but read really nice. I won't go into Ray's finds since i know he will have his own post.

Other then the dime, that parked kicked my butt. Finds were very scarce and the ground extremely wet and muddy from all the rains we had. The hole I dug for the dime filled up with several inches of water before i could cover it up. I did also manage a small silver ring, a silver earring, and a Missouri tax token there too.

The second park was pretty much a bust except for 1 wheat cent.

We rounded up the day at one of Ray's old standby spots. only had a and hour or 2 of daylight left so we got to work right away. my first 2 coins were wheat cents but as the sun was going down, i got an iffy hit that was reading more to the iron side but sounded so sweet. Opened the hole and stuck my x-1 probe in and it sounded much sweeter. Turned out to be my second Barber dime of the day. Only the third time in my life for a multiple barber day.

It was pretty dark soon after, but neither one of us wanted to leave. You would have thought it was the last hunt of the season and we did not want it to end. But is was just 2 guys doing what they love to do. We hunted the hour in the dark. backlights on and everything else by feel. I even had to reach down to see where my coil was after i pinpoint just to know where to dig:super: But just like fishing, the hunting was better in the dark because in that last 45 minutes I found 2 Injuns and my 3rd Barber dime. First Barber hat trick!!!!!!

The last barber was a classic 1 way hit. If Bryce had not posted such a great explanation recently I would have passed it up since it was way too dark to chase an iron signal. But when it came in a certain way it sounded so good. turn 90 degrees and gone. went back the original way and good, but could not pinpoint it. The iron trash was "sucking" the signal away just like Bryce taught. I started to walk away but came back to it. I turned about 30 degrees and the signal was still sounding sweet but this time i got a good pinpoint. Dug the plug and it was in it and did it sound SWEET!!. Even in the dark, by what little light I had, i knew it was my third Barber.

All in all it was a great day. Learned a lot, and was able to put what I read about here by the other masters to good use. Thanks again to ray, Bryce and all the others here who give so unselfishly of their knowledge.

Nice Finds DrBobinMO. Looks like some nice Barbers you got on that hunt. If the Barber with the O Mint Mark is the 1902, it's worth around $15-$32. Depends on how the Liberty is on the Headband. Congrats on the Hat Trick and the Injuns as well. Continued Success, Good Luck and HH to you on your next outing.:detecting:

Those are some good looking Barbers. Id call that a great day.

Dew

A road trip like the one you fellers' had is one you'll never forget.

Way to go Cuz. Especially the last Barber with the one way hit. I love it. That's excatly what we have been talking lately. Keep up the great digs and don't fall back to the dark side of cherry picking :starwars:

Bob was a great guy to meet up and hunt with. However unlike his boring 3 Barber dimes and 2 Indians I went for a wider variety of finds.:detecting:1-1901-0 Barber dime ,1 Rosie ,1-1943 Canadian Silver quarter ,1 Buffalo , 3 Indians and a chewed Sharps CW Bullet..
Bob thanks for making the drive on short notice and maybe we can do it again soon,Ray.

Good job on the three barbers, Bob. Finding three or more barber coins in a day doesn't happen very often for most of us.
I have got two in a day a few times, but I don't think I have found three or more yet.

....HAT TRICK.....WOW!!! What a dog!!!! I'm sorry I missed that trip, sounds like you had a great day Congrats!!:super:

the 1902 is the one with the "o" mintmark:clapping:

Thanks Dew. It was a day I will always remember.

means so much to me and helps in so many ways. That last Barber is all you my friend. I never would have it in my collection without your help. :beers:
