Barber half dollar

I went to a school today and this used to be a old fair grounds.It hard to find the old stuff because of all the clad in the ground.I have already dug about 10.00 dollars in clad.Last week i found a barber quarter 1899 and today I found a 1908 half It is so dry it didnt give a good tone but I dug it anyway one of those iffy signals.

That is a fantastic find! I can't wait until I locate one. You are correct about the dryness. Went for several hours today and didn't find squat! Even if I do get a signal the ground is so parched that you really need a screwdriver and a hammer!

Great find! Could you tell us about how deep? Flat or on edge? I am curious just how shallow something as big as a half could be and still give an iffy signal in dry conditions. Could you describe the signal for us? I have been digging a LOT of iffy signals lately and have been learning a LITTLE. The ground here is also dry. I did find a 1916 Mercury dime about a week ago that was probably 4 1/2 inches and not a solid silver dime signal. I have been using Iron Mask, Quick find, and Digital trying to find a clearly superior mode that works the best for me.

It could have been on edge,when I dug out the plug it fell out so I didnt see where it was in the plug.I use a relic shovel and dug as deep as it would go.I hunt in smartfind and hunt in im 16,The smartfind box was close to silver but bounced all over the right side so I tryed to get a reading by x the target the other way it didnt read as good as the first so I dug it sometimes you get lucky.I think it is all the other stuff in the ground that causes it not read well.I hope this helps.

We havent had any rain in 3 weeks or so,I think it helps to hunt very slow when it is dry and dig anything that give a good sound use your ears, and you shouldnt get much iron falseing in dry dirt.Good luck.

I wish I could have gotten a Barber but I can't complain. It sure shocked me when I found the 1st one and then I was in dis-belief when I seen the 2nd. Goes to show you just never know what you will find next. Hope you continue finding some great finds and Good Luck and HH.
