I have a Cortes that I just purchased used. I think that I will like it very much. At a hunt site that I have hunted several times,I found 9 coins in a short hunt. My question is. Are akaline batteries better,or do Hi-capacity NI-MH give good performance? Thanks Ken

Well Ken, I use alkalines in my 'Hawkeye' (UK version of the deleon) and I have to say I am really impressed with them. I still have the original set in the machine, and only 2 blocks off the battery meter have gone. Taking into account that I have used the machine for around 15 hours, this is impressive! It will be interesting to see how fast they 'drop off' now, but at the moment they are still going strong! My local store was doing a deal on Duracells, a pack of 8 for the price of 4!!! so I've stocked up on this deal, and have 12 packs!. At this rate, they should keep me detecting for at least 2 years HH charlie(UK)

I bought a new battery charger and some hi capacity Nihm AA batteries and some 9V batteries. I think this will save me money in the long run and also give the detector a little more power to operate with.
Thanks,
Emmett

I just bought two nm/hi rechargeables and they will not fit in the machine. they go in but can not put battery door back on they are to thick.

That sounds real wierd! have you compared thier diameter with 'regular' batteries? Another thing I would say about rechargeables is: yes, they do save you a lot of money in the long run but, my personal experience of them is that the power 'drop off' is really dramatic . They're going great for a time, then suddenly, your detector 'croaks' with virtually NO WARNING! so if you use rechargeables, my advice is to ALWAYS carry a spare set with you at all times! Jack, Some "9" volt batteries are 7.2 volts, some are 8.4 volts. The 8.4 volt batteries are generally a little longer than the 7.2 batt. I like to use the 8.4 kind, as they are closer in voltage to the 9 volt akaline. The 7.2 and 8.4 are rechargable. HH Ken
