Battery life & efficiency

Is a unit less efficient when battery life has dropped off to half or lower, or does it operate the same throughout?

Thanks in advance,
Steve in PA

This is by no means a scientific study. I have not noticed any drop off in performace down to about 2-3 out of 5 total bars on my 2500. The worst hunt (and only skunk) of my career came on a hunt with my large imaging coil installed and the battery meter steady on 2 bars. Nothng worked properly. I got falses all the time no matter how low I set sensitivity. I couldn't pinpoint. I thought the coil was bad. I checked and rechecked all the connections. I rebooted. No joy. I had to go home to get my stock coil and returned to find a few coins even with the old batteries. I then installed new batteries and all was well with both coils.

I now use rechargeables, good ones, and recharge after 15-20 hours of hunting when the battery meter fluctuates between 3-4 bars. You can get a dual use charger and batteries for about 30 bucks. If you need 8 batteries add another 12 bucks. Best advice I ever got on this forum except for Kenny's and John's pinpointing hints.
