Battery options for excal 1000

Hello,
I picked up a used Excal 1000, it has the alkaline battery pod. What is the best way to go as far as rechargeable battery pod and a charger. Thanks.

Best Regards,
Steve

Buy the peak charger and adapter also. The charger will not overcharge and it charges quick. Has a green light when finished charging, or just leave it plugged in.

I'll second that, the packs they sell just slot into the alkaline pod after removing the alkaline holder, close and away you go. These packs can be charged with the stock charger if you have it (according to them) but i strongly recomend thiers as it does the job in less than 2 hours, rather than all night

Thank you very much! Which battery of the four would you recommend for my excal 1000, it is not the latest #2 model. I see there is a 1400 and 1500? I am a bit confused because on their website the 1st one listed say 9 volt?

Best Regards,
Steve

I got 2 x 1400mah, I think the 9.6v relies on the high mah to stay at that voltage for a long time. I put 8 x 1.2v rechargables in the alkaline pod and the excal ll fired up ok, no battery warning and threshold ok although i didn't run it long so i don't know how long it would last.

Get the highest Mah rated they have. That's essentially the size of the 'gas' tank. If you'r tank will hold 2700 gallons rather than 1000 gallons, you can drive a lot farther, all other things being equal. For the extra few $$ difference it makes sense. Their charger with the delta peak measuring circuit has something a lot of much more expensive chargers don't have and it essentially makes it a plug in and forget it charger. No worries about overcharging. I ran one of theirs before I sold the Excal. Hmmm! Why would someone want an Excal while working in freshwater? You'll have one advantage. Your musical background will get you to be able to hear the subtle differences in the tones it makes when identifying a digger much faster. Won't be near as easy as your Tiger Shark and IMHO in the fresh water it has no advantages over many of the others. In the salt environment...that's another story. Be wanting to hear your comparisons of the two in fresh water. Jim

Jim, the 2700mah is only rated 9v, wheras the others are 12v

ToniSteve this is the battery I use over 1 year old and still working great. I charge it 12 hrs. with the charger that came with my Excal 1000 and it runs for 12 hrs. + I have 2 so I can detect 24hrs. non stop, but my old body doesn't hold up that long anymore. Good luck. HH

I have replaced two separate Excal 1000's one with the NiMH 1400ma, and the other withe the NiMH 1500ma. I use the the peak charger which charges fast and can leave it plugged in if I wish. I have hunted with both of these machines and I have not ran out of juice. I have hunted over twelve hours several times and it has not let me down. Remember though, if you buy the peak charger, you need the adapter to go with it. The batteries were very easy to change out, but you should buy some silicone grease for coating of the O-ring.

Kered...I am holding in my hand right now a NiMH 1.2 Volt 2300 Mah battery from T-Energy. My suggestion was to get the one that fits your machine with the highest Mah rating you can find. Fully charged, the 2300 Mah out to run about 50-60% longer than a fully charged 1600 Mah battery. However, as some have pointed out, unless you are a young-un, having a battery last longer than 6 hours is all extra jiuce. It might be useful on a road trip with consecutive hunts in the plan. No need to charge every night...Jim

2300mah is old hat, i use 8 x 2800mah (and have just bought 3000mah) on my etrac and they well outlast the stock 1600mah but we are talking ready built packs here, your 1.2v one won't it does not matter what the mah is, you need 10x for 12v or 8x for 9v, weather or not the 9v would power all excaliburs i don't know, that was my point and what Tonisteve was asking as the 2700mah, 1st pack in the posted link is only 9v instead of 12v like the other 2.
hope this clarifies the topic
