Battery Problems ....

I have always read that using an eraser on the battery contacts will help but I tried this on my pack that I can open which is the one I use the most and it still conks out after a few minutes. Does it get to a point where it has to replaced, in other words buy a new battery pack? I tried the one that came with the MD and that one works fine so I know it is not the contacts inside the handle but the pack itself that is the problem. Any input would be appreciated.

I sometimes use a little Scotch-Brite (the grey fine pads) and a chop stick - when you split the two chop sticks the fat end is a pretty good fit for my battery contacts. What sort of batteries are you using in the pack? I use Duracells when I use the pack that takes AA cells.

M using Tenergy 2600 mAh.

Maybe the batteries are bad....you should buy a good battery tester.....I found one on-line that I love - it'll test the batteries under load...try popping in some Duracells and see if you still have the same problem.

Yeah, could be. I'll try some other ones I have and see what happens tomorrow. What battery tester do use by the by?

I too use the Tenergy 2600 and love them, but James has one too that is giving him a problem and the batteries tested out good. Try taking each battery and clean both ends of the battery with the scotch brite as we seen them build up a small film so they don't make a good contact and give a problem. Try it and then charge them up and let us know how they work.

Will give it a try.

hello mate, one of the problem's you may have might come from the connecter point's on the actual battery,2 little rond bit's on the bottom,if they look rusty, put in water, wet bag, box, uncontrolled moisture place's.give them a little scrape, then insert, and you should get a connection.or replace the rechargable batterie's,dont throw the actual plastic unit.

I've had trouble using rechargables also. Seems like when they show 1/2 life left on the display the XS starts acting wierd. Sounds are still good but the display is inaccurate. I'm using 3000 mah batteries and they only last like 3 hours. Never have this problem with a good set of alkalines and they last a good 8-10 hours.

I agee with eppillus06. Sandy, that used to be with Minelab Service Dept., told me to be sure and keep the two round contacts on the end of the pattery pack clean. I use the pencil eraser on them and it works fine. I never actually use the AA pack so I don't have any other ideas. Good Luck with the fix.

I tried some newer rechargables and it worked fine. Must be a bad battery or two in the older ones that I have.

now now mr hunter, ive never worked for minelab service dept.1.heard the hourly rate is set at the uk minimum rate,2.it's an awful long way to commute!.3.i dont get out of bed for less than

eppi..........I guess the way I worded my reply to king-g was confusing. I was agreeing with you about cleaning the two round contacts on the end of the battery pack....That's it!!..Unless your name is Sandy, there shouldn't have been any confusion with the rest of my comments. Sandy does/did work for the Minelab service dept. in Vegas, and she had told me several years ago about keeping those contacts cleaned. Sorry about confusing you.
