Battery question on the coil

New member
Thinking about buyng one but have a question on the coil battery. Is it replaceable when it goes bad or do you have to buy a new coil. Also how long of a life should you have before this happens.

The battery should last years - many people with the original Deus have the original battery and that is from 2009.

The battery can be replaced yourself but if you want to ensure the coil remains waterproof, send it in to have it done - the cost is very reasonable and you know it is done correctly.

The battery is intended to hold up for years - most of the original buyers (2009) are still on their first battery so I would not be afraid of the need to replace the battery in any of the three components.

Checking with the distributor here in the US, they indicated that they have yet to replace a coil battery which indicates the life it offers. They did say that they estimated the cost to be about $50 when the time comes $which will cover the battery and replacement service.

Remember, the key to long life is periodic charging . . . . if you are not using it such as during the winter, top it off monthly to get the most in terms of battery life,

For battery optimization and expected battery life, refer to page 34 in the latest manual. The recommendation from XP is that if you will not use the detector for about a month, the batteries should be charged to about 40-70% (roughly two bars). For longer periods, the batteries should be cycled (topped off and then discharged to 2/3) about once a month. Just topping them off is not recommended for long time storage.

It is also important to note that LiPo batteries do not like to be discharged to very low levels. It is therefore recommended to recharge them/top them off after each outing if possible. They do not suffer from the memory effect but rather benefit from being topped off often. The only exception being long term storage as described above.

As for capacity, they should have about 80% remaining after 300-400 charging cycles. One cycle is one full discharge/recharge. If you use 50% and then recharge, that is one half of one full cycle. All else equal, the LiPo batteries prefer two of these partial discharges/recharges rather than one full (100%) discharge/recharge..

If 50 bucks is correct... What a deal. I know lots of friends who go through that in double as per month.

No reason to doubt the distributor - they clearly have customer focus in their actions.

But again, you will probably have a few years at least on the Deus before you need to worry about the battery needing to be replaced

And you can swap the ones out in the headphones and control unit yourself in no time - the coil is where it is better to send in so that the coil remains waterproof
