Beach 1st Time

Hi guys and gals :)

I have a question /:)

I have a public beach here in the maritimes that i am gonna use for my first time hunt (even before my yard)

Now here the water is all salt and i know this beach is virgin territory (have yet to see anyone detect here where i live )

Question is i think i should set the pro to salt but then what should i do next?
like numbers for ummm gain and such ???

also should i do the edge of the beach in the water ?or just stay up in the dry sand only?

I just made some comments in your other post, but I would stay in the dry sand at first for easier recovery. Because the MXT is a single frequency machine, it's better to hunt either in the dry sand, or the wet sand or surf, but not both at the same time. You may be able to hunt the dry sand with the tracking in Ground, but if it overloads or is too eratic, switch it to salt mode.

If you are looking for jewelry, you should keep your discrim knob down around 2- 3 ( higher if you get too much trash for your liking at the start, but be aware you will start losing small gold if you do), slight threshold tone, adjust the gain as high as you can without it become too "chattery".

Others with more beach experience than me will hopefully speak up.

If the beach is not too trashy run the disc. down low . I run almost at zero not to miss anything. Run the gain as high as you can without getting false signals or a lot of static. I agree in the dry sand lock the ground after ground balancing, but I run in salt mode along the water's edge where the sand is wet. I also run in coin/jewlery mode. Have fun on the beach. I usually find more coins near the entrance to the beaches, but jewelry can be found near the water's edge. Good hunting and have fun
