Beach detecting

G'day, took my 705 to the beach today with the 10X5 DD and had a few problems with the damp- wet sand. I realise the 705 is not really designed for this application but I wondered why I was unable to pinpoint a target due to the double rings constantly going off no matter where I was on the damp sand. The 705 was ground balanced and sensitivity was at 15. When I moved away from the damp sand onto the dry the problem ceased and I was able to pinpoint a target with no problem. Inexperience is no doubt a contributor however I feel something else was happening. Any ideas? Aaron

i don't use single frequency machine in wet sand really frustrating MHO if heading down there try a multi frequency VLF ? i use a pulse machine wet sand and water deep and well just Love's gold and silver and everything in between, there are those who will disagree but that's kool too each their own but i don't like wasting my time, dry sand go for it will do perfect in dry sand and use mine for dry sand wet sand no need to drive myself nuts as well as the machine.

if wanting to do wet salt sand try all metal mode,

On the 705, I would be using Beach Tracking mode instead of just ground balancing the detector because the Ground phase of wet sand can vary greatly from the dry sand. But other than that, double beeps will typically occur on shallow or large targets, particularly when using a DD coil. One beep occurs when the target is centered under the coil and a second beep can occur when the edge of the coil passes over the same target. And if I recall, it is typically the "right hand side" of the coil that gives the second beep. (I assume it is one of those transmit winding vs receive winding differences) Wet sand will magnify those target responses due to the increased conductivity of wet sand, compared to dry sand. One "work around" would be to raise your coil a few inches off the sand, when pinpointing or X-ing over the target. JMHO HH Randy

I went beach hunting and had the same problem beach tracking does help though.

Thanks, all good advice, I'll experiment with tracking and if not stick to the dry, still plenty of targets there. Aaron.

will still be able to find stuff in the wet but it will be a bit taxing just from falsing can turn sen's down and still find things if they are there but not as deep or as easy (user comfort) as a duel freq machine or a pulse machine, i see kellyco advertising the GPX5000 as a wet sand machine , i wouldn't like to accidentally drop her in the water that would be an expensive hunt

no one machine can do everything its just how it is.

no will rephrase that no one machine can do everything WELL.
