Beach find rock!:ukflag:

Can anyone help.
I was out detecting and found this rock glinting in the sun and I thought that was what was giving the tone but when I tested it there was no tone.
I assume it is fools gold but the rock is very heavy for it's size but does not give a tone on the probe.
Any ideas as to what the rock is please.

Definitely pyrite in what looks to be hematite matrix. That would explain its weight.

As best as can be id's with just pics, I agree with abnackimac . If you are hoping against hope that it is gold (and who wouldn't!), a knife blade will easily scratch gold, but will not scratch pyrite (chipping doesn't count as scratching).

If that darker material has a bluish tint to it or blackish it could be covellite or calcocite. However, my detector (AT Gold) easily sounds off on those minerals.

the grey material looks like a lead sulphur, "Galena" they are commonly find associated
