Beach hunting coil for Aquasearch

I am in the process of purchasing an Aquasearch from Mr. Bill and would like to know coil preferences for beach hunting, wet sand and in the water for Florida beaches. Mono or DD, it comes with mono but he will exchange it for DD if I want, his thoughts were that the mono would work best.
I would appreciate any input I can get and would like to hear from Eric Foster with his thoughts.
Thanks for your time, Chuck SWF

Chuck I am just a end-user not a tect person, but I have used my Goldquest for several years on beaches of Penscola, Destin, Panama City, Bradenton, Sarsota, Marco Island, Key West, Miami, Hollywood, Ft. Lauderdale, Vero, Sebastian Inlet, Daytona, New Syrma, Jacksonville and many, many in Ga, SC, NC and UP. I live in my Motorhome and travel and detect.... My experience is you can say Florida Beaches. The beaches on the Pan Handle are the quieted to use the 11" coil in. Discussing 11" mono coil here. Bradenton has some type of minerals that cause a bit/slight of threshold rises when on the wet sand and in the water and you have to run in 15uS. to dig the deep ones. Vero is the worst...Black sand which is iron and silver oxide in layers. Most of the time below Jacksonville I just find it better to run in 15uS to be able to hear the deep ones.
Recenly I bought a 10" mono. I lost about one inch in depth and I lost on dia. of radiated pattern. It seems to be more stable in threshold tone (sees less acumilated area of ground). So far appears to be more stable in the water but my experiece is limited on that yet.
I Have no experience with the DD coil expect on my Excalibur 1000 but the several I have had conversation with and what I have read the best choice for Florida might be the DD coil because it is far superior on hot ground I am told. May lose one inch in depth over the 11" mono but if you get stability you can hear the deep ones...You can't find it and dig it if you are ignoring the slight threshold rises...
Hope this helps in you thinking if not send me an e-mail and I will try to give you more for your area information...Frank

I have used Mono's in Daytona Beach area with no problem, in or out of water. PI's I used including Eric's were 15uSec. There is black sand there also. HH....Don

Chuck, I've had my Aquasearch for several months and have had no trouble with different sand conditions. I use it in dry sand, wet sand and mostly in the water with no difficulty. I was not aware that the circuitry would allow for a DD coil on the Aquasearch but if given a choice I would stick with the mono coil only because of the depth. If I want to sweep the beach and get some coverage I'll use my WOT Explorer combination. I use the Aquasearch for the sole purpose of getting what others are missing due to the depth factor. The mono coil gives you that edge. I realize you have to overlap your swings a little more but for diehards it's worth it.
Just my 2 cents.
HH Mike T.

Mike, I do have the Aquasearch on order from Mr.Bill with the DD coil. Doing so on the recommendation of both Eric and Mr. Bill for my application, I want to use it in Alaska for nugget shooting along with Florida hunting in the water.
How deep can you find a nickle in the wet sand with your mono coil. I give all of my detectors the nickle test. Certinly hope I made the right decision but have great faith in both Mr. Bill and Eric Foster.
Thanks for your input and the same to others who replied to my question.
Chuck, SWF

Hi Chuck,
I can't tell you how your PI will work on the beach with a DD, but I have a GQ clone, which is extremely close to the GQ in design and I use the DD coil almost exclusively for nugget hunting.
As for depth comparisons on a nickel, I actually do a little better with the DD simply because it is quieter.
If you are planning to use our detector for a dual purpose as you mentioned, I think you did make the right choice.
