Beach Hunting Question .. Need advise !

I was out today at the beach here in Jacksonville with my 18" boots on and the Sea Hunter There were these deeper waterways or channels leading to the waterline were the water funneled back to the ocean. Should I be hunting these "cuts" when I find them? They are about 10" or so deeper than the surf. The current runs swifter in these channels and these are the only "cuts' I see at the beach here in the winter time. We have not had any rough surf lately.

I hunted at low tide for about 2 hours at ankle to knee deep in the surf, but only hit 4 signals and came up with zero ! Good exercise, but no treasures except one penny. Thanks. EZ

Get rid of the gumboots, change into thick soled snug fitting dive boots.
Use a scoop with long handle and search a few of the surrounds leading to these return water channels, search also a few of the channels, the higher points between the channels where pebbles and darker coarse sand is seen is the slowest part of the retreating wave action and the start of drop-offs for heavier items.
Take care when working the water channels there can be a good deal of unexpected force in the rushing returning water and the sand will be removed under ones feet with the water-flow, there will be this sinking feeling, So :nono: Gumboots.
There is nothing like first hand experience, so do a few of the channels and surrounds you will soon see where,... if any...... the pay-dirt is.
It can be good.

Hi,
I hunted today Coin Beach DE, temp 37 degree wind from the SE @15mph 1hr. before low tide. Recent winter storm here in DELMARVA cut the beach down about 4ft.

And exposed many gravel and shell bars which were being washed ashore. The type of cuts you are describing are areas of channel cuts leading into the low tide area of the beach. Those cuts can and sometime contain black sand and gravel and are very good places to cherry pick. but don,t spend a lot of time on them.

There area to look at are any locations up into the high tide mark where the tide has receded hours before and any spots where there is a depression or cliff cuts. Found in 2 hr search in one location 2Quarters- 2Dimes-3 Penny's and several misc. junk items. I expected a little bit more with the amount of sand stripped away. But the wind chill was about 22 degrees and 2 hours is about all I could stand

GOOD LUCK

Thank you guys for all your great input. I will certainly incorporate the information and hope to get some good signals. I went out today at a tot park and found 4 dollars in change, but I want to retrieve some good gold and silver in the a water. thanks. Marty
