Just having fun modifying a Deepstar for a customer that wanted even more depth. With a little additional heatsinking, it reliably runs on 24V, pumping 4A peak through the coil. It would make a great winter detector as the case gets comfortably warm, and kept under the coat will help to ward off the shivers. The coil gets nice and warm too and if you are searching where there is a skin of ice on the water, just sit the coil on it (having pinpointed a signal) and it will melt a neat 12in diameter hole just over the object.
Just realised that aliens are coming to this planet on treasure hunting trips and this is the explanation for the mysterious crop circles that appear in our cornfields this time of year. Their technology enables them to make far more powerful PI detectors than we can, with the result that the eddy currents induced in the ground kills off the roots of the corn and it all falls down flat in a circle. Fortunately though, they haven't figured out how to dig holes 100ft deep.
