Been thinkin about this business of posting replies in the subject line. Why would other forums not do this? Well...................

the answer appears to be pretty simple. On our forum we're interested in what all the participants have to say. I always read all the replies in most every thread. People on other forums don't do that. Here's an example from the Minelab Explorer Forum:

http://www.findmall.com/read.php?19,1412781,1412781#msg-1412781

Scroll down to the thread summary. This post was made 2/28 and has been viewed by 313 people. There are 16 replies in the thread. Now look at the number of views for the replies. Virtually no one looks at the replies! The oldest reply has the most views with a grand total of 6. Only 1 out of every 50 who viewed the post was interested in what old dewcon4414 had to say about it.

I browsed through a number of forums and this is fairly typical. Looks like the vast majority of participants don't give a furry rat's hindquarters what others have to say. Or........maybe it's just too much trouble to read them. A visitor to our forum asked "Is it REALLY so difficult for some of you to click a post to read its replies?" I'd say the answer is pretty obvious.

A notable exception to the above is the Views Forum. They are interested in what each other has to say and have a lot of interaction. Not much surprise that they generally use our form of posting replies in the subject line.

When I click on Dasho's post, I am able to read ALL replies; Hence, Dasho gets another view registered while dewcon4414 appears to have been rejected:sadwalk:

That being said, I still prefer comments being placed on the subject line:thumbup:
