Been thinking, should I buy the larger coil...

Jeff in Pa

The 13" instead of the 11"?

I am a land coin hunter with the interest in rings. The 9" coil has already found 6 rings.
Would I gain the most depth and deep coin potential with the 13" over the 11"?

I have seen what a 13" coil done for me vs a 8 x 6 on my Etrac and I was very pleased with it.

Who here has both coils and is a coin hunter? I know the Deus is extremely fast so I am thinking it should easily be able to handle the size.

Thanks in advance for any help

Jeff

I have the eleven and it its super deep especially if you don't care abo
ut vdI get the eleven trust me worth the money

Jeff, If you look at old posts, you will see that the 13 was just slightly deeper than the 9.
Now, if you want a lot of coverage for jewelry, that might be a good choice, but it is not a depth demon.

I did see that but my question is if the 13" was only slightly deeper than the 9" then what makes the 11" Much Deeper? Did XP intentionally do this? Sorry but I am trying to see the logic in this.

I can't fathom the idea that XP did not gain much depth going to a 13" coil. I four very much that XP did not make a deeper coil, I mean one that makes people say WOW this coil is just what we needed. I get the idea of more coverage but I can't see why it would only have a little more depth.

Some of you may ask just how deep does this guy want to go? Well I have spots where I have dug dimes at a measured 11" and I am always interested in going beyond that mark.

I had the Deus twice along with two 13" coils. The 13 inch coil is much better at ground coverage and that is it. It really was no deeper. It was a pain to swing. The balance was off on the coil mount design. It was just a miserable coil in my opinion. I no longer have the Deus, but I still like to do some research because the Deus is at the top of my list once again. I have talked to dealers on the phone and have read threads on the 11 inch coil. It seems XP finally used some good engineering and came out with a much better coil. Easier to swing and I hear it adds inches to the depth department. What XP needs to do is offer the Deus in our choice of coils. They did it with the headphones or backphones. Don't buy into the I can get the 13" coil used and much cheaper than the 11 inch. Those are people trying to unload their coil so they can get the 11 inch themselves.

Thank you Goodmore for you honest opinion.

So the 13" only had the obvious improvement. That surprises me. I just assumed that XP would also improve the depth considerably.

That helps me,

Thanks

Remember who the audience was when the 13 was offered. It wasn't the US. I'm guessing that it was designed to allow people in Europe to cover plowed fields quickly. Since relic hunting is so popular there and many hunt plowed fields, depth probably wasn't a big concern.

Then again...maybe XP had intended for the 13 to be a depth monster and things didn't work out. It happens.

you need a stronger stem as its head heavy wi the 13

I now have all three coils.
The 9" is a great coil. Very fast and surgical.
The 11" has better coverage and ( I think ) better depth.
The 13" has the best coverage and is great for fresh water beach and water hunting.
All three have their best uses and I'm glad I have them.

I live in the U K and use the 13" coil 90% of the time, it punches deeper using the lower frequencies.

Look at the buried hoard test on Gary's Detecting Site, very impressive.

Just Google Gary's Detecting to view his detector tests.

Whatever you choose good luck, have fun and H H.

I wont have a need to have BOTH the 11" coil and the 11X13 coil - so when I get the 11 inch round coil I will most likely be selling the larger coil. Wish I could give you a timeframe, but I've already placed my order and it's "on backorder" so I have no idea what that means in terms of time. But so far, 10 silvers for January in this weather - I would have to say it's a winner, but again I've never tried the 9" coil, either

I don't think that's true, I have the 13" coil and the stem it came with is the same as the 9" coil.

If you want depth with the bigger coils then use the lower frequencies, I have the 9in and 11in and I think the 11in is enough for now for depth and coverage.
I did have the 13in a long time ago but did not like it , balance is off and I am not really a big coil fan.
There is a way to balance it better and that's by turning the coil around so facing backwards. The Deus was made for European sites mostly but XP think its fine for US/Aus too which it may be .

I feel the Deus is a great scavenging machine to use for the first 9in but beyond that I would use an E.T. / CTX type , the recovery speed of the Deus makes it harder to find at depth unless using slow .
All machines are a compromise in some way , that's why some cheap machines do things better than other more expensive machines sometimes on some sites/grounds.

I see an 11" coil in my future. Definitly has a place in the tool box. Wish people hated them so I could get a used one, but thats not going to happen any time soon. Gonna have to suck it up.
