Best coil for the Quqttro

Hi everyone, I just got a nice Quattro detector with the 10" coil. Can someone tell me if a 8" coil is better , or about as good as the 10"" coil? I have been trying to find the 8" coil but on luck so far. What is the best for coins and rings? Thanks flintstone

Well, I have the sunray 8 inch and the minelab 8 inch ( which if memory serves me was actually 7.25 inches ).... but when I had my explorer II I replaced both of them with a NEL sharpshooter coil... seemed to me the target ID was a bit better and depth was pretty remarkable. ( at least in my area )..
If you have the opportunity to find a sharpshooter, I would recommend you give it a shot.

Thanks guys, I got the Quattro detector and it came with the 10" coil. Works very well, but some was saying a smaller coil dose better. I got a 8" minelab coil off a web site, but it got sent to someone else, now i am trying to get my money back. Mark I live in Kentucky, did live in Columbus until i retired we are not to far apart. I will start looking for a 8" or 6x8 SEF coil for it. Thanks flintstone

Very nice, a fellow ohioan.... well, if your going with the minelab 8 inch coil ( which is not a true 8 inch I'm sure), my recommendation for the nel sharpshooter stands. I believe you'll be happier with the performance of that coil.

Anyway good luck and HH Hunting.

I have used many different detectors myself and for me and the hunting I do has a lot of trash so the separation does the best for me which I find the 8 inch coil works better for me. Now most of my detecting is parks, ball fields and some yard and as we know they seem to be a lot of other trash. The 8 inch seems to separate real good and even found a nice walking half in area that was trashy and many had gone over it with other detectors. also when I used my Sovereigns I got a nice franklin half with a big bolt on top of the half and wish I had taken a picture of the rust spot on the half. This was done with a 8 inch coil and my buddy had a 10 inch coil on his Sovereign and it just nulled for him. So it comes down to the type of hunting you do and my coil of choice is the 8 inch SunRay coils as they work for me. I bought a new SunRay X8 on my Explorer in a real trashy yard that everyone says there is too much trash, but I just had to try it and the first target was a dime which was just under the sod and was surprised to see it wasnt a new dime but a nice seated dime. In that yard got another seated dime and many silver tooo and feel it was because it was the smaller coil as the 10 inch seen to much.
I was able to pick up a very nice Quattro, looks new and has a Sun Ray X1 probe on it and then a week or so I seen someone had a new Sun Ray X8 coil, so that will go on the Quattro if I get to use it, or It will be sold with both the stock 10 inch coil and the new Sun Ray X8 coil.
Anyway this is my opinion as the 8 inch coil worked for the hunting I do. I did use a big 12X14 SEF coil on my E-Trac in one place as finds were old and clean area other than a few bottle caps as I covered more area this way and done good, so the bigger coils are good for some places.

Good Luck
Rick
