Best Digger For Deeper Holes? (& A Good Sand Scoop?)

I've been for the most part happy with the digger I currently have. I forget the name of it but it's probably the most popular one on the market with a black handle and a sort'a half moon shaped metal blade. It's also got the little jagged edge for cutting through roots. Anyway, I think the metal digging portion is like 7" long. As I was getting more used to the GT I was often finding that I had to get the handle down in the hole a bit in order to dig further for a few really deep coins. Rather than being the "odd" target that ends up being this deep with some of my prior machines, I'm finding it more routine to have to dig plugs well past the digger handle and that makes it more work than if I had a longer digger. I try to keep my plugs only about as big around as a pop can top, maybe slightly bigger, but obviously I can't do that when I need to get the digger down in the hole futher than normal.

So, with the GT already pushing to some outstanding depth and me expecting that my 15x12 is going to get even deeper I'm in the market for a somewhat longer digger to reach further down in these holes. I don't want to carry one of those fold up military shovels because I bet some people might frown on seeing a shovel (even one with a short handle on it) at some of the sites I hunt. I'd like something that looks a little less "serious" than a miltary style shovel for those areas, even if it can still do as much damage. Perception is everything in this world, and often something that looks a little more friendly won't give people a second thought. Not that I mind carrying a bigger/meaner digger, just that I don't want one that looks like I'm digging fox holes with it.

So what's a good digger to get down there deeper that you guys like? Give me a price and a link if you can. I've used that popular "Lesche" (probably spelled it wrong) digger a few times but I don't care for those myself. Besides, if it is any longer than my normal digger it doesn't look like by much.

While I'm asking, who has the best price on a sandscoop with handle that isn't going to fall apart on me the first time I use it. Somehow I've lost the one I bought years ago and I plan to let the GT run free on some local beaches this summer where as I mostly hunted the land for the last several years. I'm not looking for top of the line, just something that is solid and will get the job done at the best price

Go to that URL and you'll see about half way down the page the 'shovel' that this company sells for a different purpose. I carry one of those with me and use it for a kneeling stick but when I have to go deep, that thing is tough as can be and will allow you to go straight down the sides of the hole you made, without making it wider, to get to the deep stuff. The wooden handle is exactly the same kind you'd find on a full size shovel and the metal part is stainless. I did sharpen it a bit but have been using one for two years and except for the wear on the handle it's as good as new. Jim

I have a fiscker digger with an earth magnet attached that goes in a holster. A steal garden trowel and butcher knife snaps right to the magnet. I use the knife to make VERY quick flaps in grass ... you wouldnt believe how easily it works. I prefer a larger flap and with the knife you get well below the roots. I dont take the knife when on the beach... but still just use that trowel. I have a scoop but prefer to dig by hand i guess on my knees.
