My silver streak is still alive after this weekend, with a banner hunt that I won't forget for some time. I went to the same park where I had found the two silver Washington quarters I posted these past two weekends. But I have hesitated to hunt this area within the park, because it is very trashy and infested with iron. I pulled out my smaller coils (6" Excelerator and 6x8" SEF), turned on high trash, and fast-on, and began hunting at a very slow pace. Naturally there were lots of false iron chirps, but my concentration was rewarded soon after with a 1942 D Mercury Dime. That gave me the indication that I was in prime silver territory, so I immediately slowed down further and began consistently overlapping my swings. Within a few hours I had 2 silver Roosevelt dimes, and 6 wheat cents, including a 1913 S in very good condition. I also found an archery pin and a very nice 14K gold chain that I eyeballed on the ground. None of my finds were very deep, typically 2-3" max and fairly easy digging. This hunt was a real confidence booster for me, and I won't hesitate to tackle trashy, iron infested sites from now on. I can't wait to get back to tackle the rest of this turf. So stay tuned for more silver (hopefully).
Happy Hunting!
