Minelab Safari
Mibelab Explorer SE Pro
Minelab E-trac
Garrett GTI 2500 Pro
Garrett Infinium LS
Whites DFX 300
Whites Spectra V

Please help.

Thanks

Gee Clev,

If money dosen't matter? I need a Minelab E trac's, a new set of headphones, a new shovel, and gas money for a year. Oh? you meant for you, oop's Just kiddin' I have never had the chance to do the woods and fields but the Safari is a killer on the beach. I would assume it would handle any kind of hunting you could throw at it. There are a lot of guys on this forum that will be able to steer you into the right detector. Gene

Serious if money doesnt matter. Go to Kellyco and ask to see the ground radar imager they offer....

Now if you just mispoke then get a Safari and join the forum lerkers to learn the ways of Pan and the Pied Piper.... Once you can understand the music Safari plays... It'll put jingle in your pocket....

Any of the minelab machines you have listed will work great for relic hunting in your area, also coin hunting. I would not use a PI machine like the Infinium for coin hunting. The DFX is not very deep IMO. The jury is still out on the new V3. I dont think the 2500 would handle your ground in NC. I use a Safari because of the depth and the ability to hunt ANY type of ground. Thats all just my opinion of course.

Hi Clev
Clev if I was you I would not get a top of the line detector. I have seen it all too often. A guy buys a expensive detector and is overwhelmed and the detector goes in the closet and it never sees the light of day again.
Metal detecting is a very difficult hobby. It is not for everyone. I think you have to be kind of different to stay with this hobby. It gets very frustrating. It takes long hours. The conditions are not always the best to be out in. You have to love the hunt more than anything.
My wife doesn't see how coming home after a long hunt with every muscle and joint hurting, dirty, sun burnt, exhausted with 14 cents. Is that fun? She just doesn't get it?
Start with a very simple detector. And build from there. Maybe you will like the hobby, maybe not? It is very easy to get overwhelmed. There is much to learn and it is a learning hobby that never quits. The first few months are hard in this hobby both physically and mentally. Most of us don't find any thing but junk for the first few times out. FRUSTRATING!
I would go into it slowly and build up. You will be able to tell if you are right for this hobby in a little while. Until then it is best to slid into it.
Thanks for reading....Z

Hi Everyone... Im JB... I have been Lurking / Admiring this website for quite some time... I usually hunt with an Ace 250 and I have been very pleased with that machine... But yall have convinced me to take the plunge and purchase a new Safari (it is in the mail) ...
I normally just enjoy reading the posts.. I rarely ever make any comments on websites like this BUT, after reading "Zeekeys" message above I just had to Chime In.... That had to be one of the funniest things I have read in a very long time : I really appreciate yalls information and especially the occasional humor... This is a great site...

If Zeekey does not mind I will end with his quote if for no other reason than to make myself laugh again.......

Hi Clev, If money is truly no object, I would agree with Z. Unless you get the guidance and help, theres a good chance of becoming overwhelmed. While this forum is not the final say on any one subject it does have a lot of great info. If you start out with a decent detector(about the mid-point of what you are willing to pay)and really get to know the machine and its' workings, then you should still have enough room in your budget to upgrade. If you are dead set on going top of the line then go to "kellyco" website and check out the E-trac by minelab, or just browse and maybe find another brand. I hope the posts you have read are able to help steer you in the right direction. Remember it's your money!! Ron :detecting:

Clev I should not have opened my big mouth. You could buy the top of the line detector and with in a few minutes of detecting put it back in the box and sell it for less than 1/2 of what you paid for it. I watch the Classified ad section and maybe I could have gotten a top of the line detector at way less than cost from you? (Only kidding Clev) Clev look at the Classified ad section and you will see detectors with only minutes of use on them selling for a fraction of the cost. It happens.....Z

Zee, I'm glad you opened your___ mouth. I told my wife what you wrote about 14 cents, sun burnt, sore muscles. She said " And I thought you were the only one". I told her there was a whole race of us, coming out of the woodwork!!! Got a big smile outta her. Ron

Some days I would love to have found 14 cents.

Guys you realize you are one of the strange, one of the few, one of the unusuals.. I had a uncle who was hung as a horse thief. When I retired my wife wanted me to get back into metal detecting so she could get rid of me. She is happy. So you guys can blame her because your stuck with me now..:detecting:...Z
