best rechargeable batteries

Well-known member
I am looking for reviews / recommendations on rechargeable batteries. Just can't figure out what is a good quality Ni-MH (Nickel Metal Hydride) battery for my detector. Some of the brands I have been looking at are

Accupower
ansmann
Tenergy
Powerizer
Energizer
Noma

any recommendations? are they all basically the same Ni-MH with different names? Thanks in advance for your help.

Look for a 2200 mah rating.

Sanyo eneloops are also great rechargeables.

Some units just don't work well with rechargeables so what works for me may not work for you...A good rule of thumb find ones with a high MAH rating. Another thought many units have a accessory pack and charger and usually work better than off brands...Google and research is also another option..

I have been using the PowerEx 2700 mAh NiMh batteries for years and have very good luck with them. I just ordered 16 this week . This is the first time I have ordered new batteries since my original purchase and I only needed them because my MD takes 8AA .

I also use their MH-C9000 WizardOne Charger/Analyzer. I like to know what's left in my batteries after many charges and it is very important to match batteries to get the most out of them. There's so many options with this charger ( other than just charging ) and I really like it....if it went tomorrow I would have another by the next day. IMHO.

Another vote for PowerEX. (Super high quality and hold up with time.) Cough up for one of their better chargers too.

I really like this charger. You can shop on-line for a better price than listed.

Sanyo eneloops best recharegable at least in AA google em , im a semi-pro photog and everyone uses em for their portable strobes, i have tested them in just about everything that takes AA's they ROCK!!!

Thanks for the information / recommendations. After reading my original post, I certainly should of added that my detector takes 6 "C" cell batteries. Yep, its an oldie - a Garrett Grand Master Hunter Cx II. I bought 6 "C" alkaline batteries at the tune of $9.50 and nearly choked on the price.

Google Accucel 6 charger from hobby city. You aren't going to find a charger less than $100 that will do the things this one will for $25. Any 2500ma or higher nimh AA cell will out run a regular store shelf battery, and they will charge higher than 1.2V per cell. 1.2 is an average or industry standard raiting. Due to voltage regulators in metal detectors less voltage does NOT mean less performance. They bring the voltage down to like 9V anyway for stabile operation.
