SAT at slowest.
REJECT at minimum setting.
THRESHOLD as to just hear it with volume at full setting.
Sweep speed SLOW.
We all know it

Bill,
Those are my settings exactly, up to, and including water to about 1 foot deep. After that, I will firstly increase SAT, and then if need be, advance the REJECT setting as the water gets deeper, to no more than 15uS in neck deep water.
Tony.

it give you a signal with every wave that passes? I want to get a GC and waterproof it but am still very skeptical that it will work in the surf. Also if you have to tune it down so that it does not pick up waves have you lost all of its effectiveness? Thanks!

Jim,
I am not troubled by waves and swell at all, and I run my machine quite "hot". I can be in water that is waist deep, and a gentle swell wave that passes above my chest will not generate any significant falsing.
Generally, I will pick my time that minimises rough conditions (lowish tides/off-shore summer winds, etc).
Having said that, if I know I am going to hunt in less than ideal conditions, a setting of REJECT around 13uS-15uS and SAT at medium allows for a smooth threshold in water at neck deep, and with swell/waves passing through my hunt area.
Even these "generous" settings, you will NOT miss the gold targets. I will still pick up small gold ear-rings/studs as well as larger gold rings at depths that sometimes I struggle to dig down to.
I'm confident the circuitry that Eric uses in his PI machines are superior to other PI detectors on the market, as well as the superbly designed/constructed coils, which all too often, don't receive the praise they deserve.
I guess like any machine, it's knowing what settings you can get away with to achieve the best performance in a given area....and with the Goldquest, well, it's just all too easy.
