better for price: ace 250 or minelab explorer?

I want to know which one is better: explorer or ace 250? you're probably going to say ace 250, so I'm also going to post it on minelab and see what reasons are better. Its what detector is better for its price, not overall. post your reasons!

You can't go by that. Using an Explorer in a place where the Ace excels could be like hunting a sparrow with a .357 mag.-too much power. With the sniper coil, the Ace also gets closer to fences, playground equipment, etc, than any detector I've used. I doubt that I would run it up against the Explorer in an ancient site where I was using every available function for depth, however. I also have a Tesoro Compadre that cost $152 that I would run against any machine for gold chains and small gold. You have to choose the best detector for your particular needs and the Ace and the Compadre have me covered in my type of hunting.

Slingshot nailed it pretty well.. I've owned a couple of both and they each have their strengths. The Ace is perfect for bark chipping, while the Explorer has a vastly superior audio system and can handle mineralised environments better than the Ace. It will come down to budget and personal preference. They both find the good stuff.

The Explorer will kick the ACE 250's butt ... everywhere and every time.

The Explorer has an assortment of optional coils and all the settings and adjustments you need to cover just about every type of hunting you would want to do.
It runs quieter, detects deeper, has a better discriminator, presents more visual and audio target information, and is much better constructed.
Plus ... it handles wet salt water sand far better than the ACE 250 can.

Comparing the two really isnt fair as the Explorer costs a lot more but has a ton of features the Ace 250 does not have.
You will learn to use the ACE 250 a lot faster than you will learn to use the Explorer simply because there is so much more to learn.

I dont mean to take away from the ACE 250 as it is about the best detector in its price range ... but it just can not compete with an Explorer.

Slingshot shares the secret right there at the end of his comments, "in my type of hunting'. What type of hunting do you plan on doing aschwars? You've also left out what sort of experience you may already have, they type of areas you plan to hunt and so forth.

Makes it very hard to offer you advice that's worth anything.

Get a Garrett! MADE IN THE GOOD OL USA! BUY AMERICAN! ALL of the Garrett's machines work just as good as any other, if not better, side by side comparison and for less money! Take your time and buy all of Garrett's machines over time. You will save a boat load of money and be covered no matter where you hunt.

I had five thugs follow me around a park one day so I left. Better to leave than go to the hospital or morgue. Thugs look for high dollar machines. So keep an eye out if you use a $3000.00 machine.

If you plan on hunting mostly woodchip tot lots for clad and small jewelery the Ace is the one.If you want to find the older valuable coins in hard hit sites forget the Ace .Do yourself even one better and get an E-Trac and once you learn how to use it you will be armed with the very best old, deep ,masked coin detector made .

Good luck with that! Why take the chance? Odds are you are still going to lose your machine at the very least. The good guys can not carry that in the parks here.

Hehe funny thing is.. Beachcomber they toyota is more likely to outlast the hummer :p.. Also cost less to repair and drive. (gas milage, tires, insurance, general upkeep, etc)

I wouldn't carry it on to a schoolyard... otherwise it is not against GA law to carry a knife as long as it ins't concealed. Sometimes it is the best tool to use to cut grass.

He He. Not only that, if you just do tot lots and parks like I do, what does it take to find a coin or gold ring at 2"? AS best as I can tell, they drop the coins instead of digging deep holes and burying them.:clapping:
