BH 3300 - first time at the beach, help?

Hi. This is my first post. Got my BH 3300 a few months ago and it has worked beyond my expectations. I have no experience in this but have done well in searching soil in the Midwest. Yesterday, with the kids, we searched on the beach in Florida. Numerous unrepeatable signals. Constant 01 and 02 signals. Then, when away from wet sand long stretches of few signals. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. Ideas? Thanks!

Hi my name is john,i also got mine a fewmonths back and im from MO and ive done well so far with it, i can tell you this, 1 and 2s are usually in the iron section so i would discriminate those first 3 but leave the rest open for jewelery because when your on the beach anyting is possible and also set your ground balance, also when your on the wet sand and your machine chatters balot set your sensetivity down until the chattering goes away at least thats what i would. i hope ths helps you.

Thanks so much. You were dead on correct. Id read so much about searching beaches i was excited to give it a try. Spent a couple of hours over a couple of days searching at st Augustine beach. The good news: found many items, many pretty deeply burried and zero false, unrepeatable signals. The bad news: items were all junk. I regularly do better at random sites in the Midwest. I guess I have to pick a dirtier(?) beach.

that is a single frequency detector you wont be able to use it on wet sand especially if there is black sand present. You should be okay on the dry sand with minimal false signals. If you do get falsing on the dry sand try upping the disc until you are stabel. That is all you can do GL

Try hunting with the coil raised an inch or three above the wet sand. Reduce sensitivity and/or increase disc. Use a smaller coil if you own one. Hunt in a section of similar moisture once you get it set up. Rather than scanning towards and away from wet to dry, follow the shore in the same band of moisture level.

Thanks. It's funny, but when i got zero signals in the wet sand ifigured my detector didn't work there. Once I got the discrimination adjusted it worked perfectly in the dry sand - so it seems you are correct.

Thanks Ed. Why didnt i think of that when we were there? That makes sense. John's advice helped a lot. We never got any signals in wet sand but still had fun. Maybe we will get a different coil or detector in the future. At least it works at home!
