Big 17 Inch Coil Question

Howard Snell

New member
I am a beach hunter some of the areas I go are competitive. I was thinking the coverage plus the little bit of extra depth might give me a edge. Is it true I might loose some targets due to the large size of the coil?

The 17" coil covers more area and has some increase in depth, I have also found some very small pieces with it on the past couple of hunts on the beach.

Same here, I have found lots of small targets, I chased a small round sinker that keep falling threw the scoop holes till it landed on my shoe. It was about the size of two BB's. Gene

I found it to be as sensitive as the stock coil. I found little annoying bits of metal with mine on the beach. But you better start lifting weights. Beach hunting is real work with that coil.

I don't find it that much heavier than the stock coil due to the great balance of the CTX. Deeper? I don't know. I have used it for three hunts so far and the biggest advantage is the coverage. It did clear up some deeper (8-10") signals that were iffy with the stock coil. Signals that were bouncing around or one way were nice and strong/clear with the 17" coil.
