Big Milestone if You're Interested.

Two things to begin. First. I track a lot of statistics. I'm sure a lot of you ask yourselves why. I sometimes ask myself why more people don't. Second. I started off the weekend needing 345 coins to hit my milestone. There is nothing harder than hunting to a goal like that. I had two seven hunt periods earlier in the year where I surpassed 1000 coins. 345 sounded easy but it wasn't. The heat, my aching bones, and the necessity to drive so far for big clad totals were all working against me.

Here is everything from today. Two hours and 45 minutes detecting.

Here are the better finds. The cross ring was my first target of the day. NITRO! I am very fond of the cross. Also costume. The leaf earring is silver. It isn't marked but my silver test kit tells me its 925. John, have you bought yours yet? The flower pin is nice too. I have no idea what that gold colored thing is. It ain't gold is all I do know.

Here's the milestone. Took me 2 years and 27 days. Only 11 weeks between coin number 20,000 and coin number 25,000. Where has all the time gone?

Chris

I now sit at 25,001 lifetime coins. Dug one over to get a start on the next 25k.

Congrats cwilk ! I haven't been out to much as of late.
You are pushing yourself to achieve goals !
Take it easy !

Cheap bangles. I find quite a few of them especially in bark chips. They were together by a swingset.

Thanks for looking.

Chris

I am just goal oriented. If I didn't set them, I probably wouldn't detect so much. I've noticed you haven't been posting hunts again. You find such good stuff too!

Chris

Congrats cwilk most impressive!! :clapping:

great job chris. you should be proud of reaching your goals. i need to start setting some myself, as i can see where they would motivate you to achieve more than if you didn't set any. how many different goals do you set each year, hunt, etc.? again, great job.

I'm just trying to picture 25000 coins in one pile and it's a BIG pile! That's a very impressive achievement.

:yo:You Rock!:yo:

I hear you on setting goals. I don't set them all the time, but I do when I spend time down in Sydney. It puts you under the gun a bit sometimes, but gets great results. Makes it interesting because you've got to put your thinking cap on a bit and find good spots.
At the rate you are going, you'll be up to 50 000 coins by years end:detecting::surprised::stretcher:. Now that's impressive. Just save them all for a photo shoot that you can post; maybe even Garrett's might put it on their website!
I envy you a bit as you seem to be able to get out a fair bit more than I can.:poke:
Keep up the good hunts. Not that you need any motivating.
Mick Evans.

WOW Chris that's awesome 25000 is a huge amount  i don't keep records to much as its a fun thing for me i try to wright down how much each detector finds until it"s payed for then i stop i also try to keep a count on which detector finds gold each time out. i do keep a finds map of a park i regularly hunt for old silver & copper coins the results are very interesting.
as for goals i don't really set them ether i usually wake up in the morning & ask myself what i"d like to find ( gold-silver-old coins-new $$$-relics ) then hunt for it & sometimes i just get in the car & drive till i see a likely looking spot then hunt for whatever.

Chris,
Awesome job! I also track my stats, although they aren't good this summer! I was doing good through the spring then as commitments increased my detecting decreased. It will pick back up in the fall (I hope).

Thanks John. I am going to submit it to Garrett. Not as impressive as a penny photo that is on the Garrett web site but a good find none the less. I have a find on there too! I saw two from you but that's why you're the master!

Chris

Thanks Oak. Luckily it's been fairly cool and wet here in NY (you're in NY too, right?) My summer has been A-OK! You'll get back out there soon.

Chris

I hunt like that way (road trips to nowhere) too but I frequently go out thinking, I'll quit at 100 coins, or I'll quit when I've found a ring. I am very fond of goals like 2000 coins in a month. My map is in my head. I know where most of my good finds came from and have it all detailed on a spreadsheet. Mapping them is a good idea!

Chris

I do have too much free time. My spreadsheet tells me I've been out 71 times this year for about 200 hours. One thing I should add is that my finds increased a lot after I got my Pro-Pointer. Last year I averaged about 28 coins an hour (another statistic) this year I'm up to almost 37.

Thanks for the kind words. I have gotten a lot of great tips from your posts!

Chris

It's a big bank account balance too. I've spent some and I still have over 2 grand in my MD account. That includes scrapped gold too.

I calculated how high they would be if I stacked them and used the figure in a testimonial to Garrett. I hope they publish it. It's pretty tall!

Chris

I usually look at the next milestone and try to figure out how quickly I can get there. I hit 20k in April and thought I'd like to reach 25k in three months and 30,000 by years end. I thought last year would be my high water mark but it looks like 2009 will be a lot better. I think I'm about 1500 coins ahead and I'm always trying to stay ahead. Next year will be rough. I am seriously thinking of switching gears and concentrating on hunting more old homesteads and becoming a better old coin hunter.

Chris

That's awesome Chris! :beers: Congrats on acheiving your goal! :clapping: Curious? What was the breakout/subtotals of the 25,000? (i.e. cents, nickels, dimes, quarters....)
