It was a HIGH of 2 degrees..........south off Lake Michigan (By me Today).............Even if my E-Trac was rated for that temp....(and I was silly enough to get out in it).......I would have needed a Jack Hammer hooked up to a Large Air Compressor..........To be able to dig it up..............L.O.L.

info as to the type of location it was found in? I too was surprised by my first silver dollar this summer - it was Canadian, but not anywhere near as old, but silver nonetheless and it was only about 2" - 3" deep, I thought it was a clad quarter before I dug. How strong was the signal on that thing and if it was in an area that has been detected before, any idea why it might have been missed?

You gotta love that. I have never dug a silver dollar. I have dug a couple half's. Congrats on a great find!!!

Erik I found the Morgan near the University of Oregon in the easement in front of old house that was turned in to apartments. The signal sounded like a silver hit but I thought it sounded 4-5" deep when i dug to that depth and probe with my x-1 I could barely get it . So I gave a good birth around the hole the dollar pop out at 8". The neat thing is my hunting bud saw me dig it .In fact I yelled and scared him he thought I dug a snake LOL. WE had hunting this a year ago in the summer but the ground was dry and didn't want to tear up the grass even though I had permission.I have my gain at 21 this seems to work for me to hear deeper coins and the vco on sizing deep on auto +3 coin pattern with the top bar edited out. I was so ecited I could not detect and left that area I will go there soon when the weather lets me HH RonC

What a great find. Morgans are beautiful old coins - back when they made coinage that looked like something. What a wonderful find and a great way to end the year. Congratulations Ron!
