Bigg Fisher Dogg F-75 refused to bark ---

Well today began a bummer!
I'd decided last night, trying to sleep that I'd go back to Raton, NM and visit a park I'd passed a month or two ago. Funny thing, I knew there was an electical power plant in Raton. I just didn't know it shared the same humongous block with the park! Not only that, the park had metal fences everywhere and big metal pipe enbankments with iron ore base under the grass! A nightmare for sure. Bigg Fisher Dogg F-75 did not like the challenge and refused to work big time! ALthough I was still receiving audio, the screen basically died. No ID, no nothing. I tried reducing SENSITIVITY but it did not help at all. I switched from Gray Ghost NDTs to a new pair of Gray Ghost Ulitimates thinking it may somehow be the headphones; no good. I tried turning the machine off, re-GB'ing. I then, as a last resort re-set frequencies running through the 7 available. ALthough it helped; it did not solve the problem. I retired Bigg Fisher Dogg F-75 grabbing Cortes. He too did not like the interfence but I did manage to find 8 or 10 coins and a silver ring with hearts. Good thing (heavy weight contender) Little Miss SE came along for the ride; she was ready and willing to go and did not have a single problem with all the interference. In fact I was able to increase both Sensitivity (20) and Gain (:geek:!

Here's my take for the day which includes another silver ring I don't remember finding. I guess it was in my pouch from another day's hunt; I'll take silver anyway I can find it, even lead; it was everywhere ---

80 Lincolns
01 1952-D Wheat
03 Nickels
03 Dimes

87 coins total

Thanks!

Now you know what I have been talking about and why my EX2 will always be in my truck when I go on a hunt. There are some places that the F75 just will not work.

Hello Erikk!
It was you; I thought so having problems with the F-75! Yes; a real problem for Fisher. I would have been thoroughly PO'ed had I not brought along my other detectors! :)

Last night I spent more time reviewing Fisher's manual. Nothing was mentioned about the blanking at all. I also reset the detector to factory settings with plans to readjust once at the park. I'm leaving it a few minutes to head that way. I'll let you know how things work out.

Keep in touch my friend. Between the two of us and other members of the F-75 clan we'll figure this diamond in the rough out.

Well that's certainly not what we want to hear. So far I haven't been in situations that flat out shut me down with the F-75 but there are certainly areas that won't allow me to use the jewelry mode. If you drop discrimination below 20 it really quiets the machine down; though you see more trash (just don't dig the jumpy hits). But not having a TID at all. That's a bummer and a half.

Good luck. I have found that there some (though very few) where no matter what you do and how low you set the disc/sens it will continues to nuts. In that situation why should I try to make it work when I can drag out the old EX2 and get max depth and stability. I love the F75 in heavy trash as long as it will run stable but if i want to listen to the "tunes" I can go all metal with the EX2.
As I have said before "there is no one machine that will do it all"

Hey Roy, did you try the motion all metal mode at this site? I find that electrical interference doesn't effect this mode nearly as much as others and I can run sens up to 90 without any problems, and it goes a couple inches deeper. I was within three miles of a nuclear power plant the other day in Palo, Iowa. I was on a fresh water beach and didn't have any problem with interference in any mode.
Maybe I should reconsider selling my Ex11. I will be selling my Vaquero and CZ3D though, both great little units, but I just don't need them since I now have the F75.HH

My oh my! Me detectorist!
I think I'm half nuts and my wife, bless her soul agrees. Night before last (Wednesday) after having a fair day with the F-75 I was cleaning the lad up and decided to install the free bonnet I received for the control box. Dumb me; I'd taken the coil cable off and failed to properly tighten the grip nut down. With the bonnet on, I assumed all was well. It's a wonder Bigg Fisher Dogg F-75 worked at all! On arriving in Raton early this morning at a tot lot, I immediately began having the same problems with the F-75 and by chance happened to brush the cable. Hearing interrupted sounds I knew immediately what was wrong. The Dogg was soon snarling angry and mad.

I'll be posting my loot for the day shortly.

Incidentally, I was able to crank up SENSITIVITY to 85 before he got too snarly. I only hunt in ALL METAL MODE not caring much for discrimination. :)

Great news. I was feeling bad for you.

I went out and pulled three quarters, six dimes (all clad) and six Mem. cents out of the dirt outside the 1st base line in front of the steel bleachers at the park on my lunch break. Impressive, but only because I dug one aluminum screw cap and skipped HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS of trash signals. This place is pull-tab and cap City and I have avoided it in the past.

Now for that poor soul getting trounced by the 1225-X . . .
