Don't use the Tracking function.

In the Prospecting mode, with a slight threshold audio, Ground Balance to the general ground matrix that is near a wet or dry stream bed. This ground would generally be a little less mineralized than the more intense black sand pockets.

When you encounter a pronounced mineralization change, such as a pocket (area) of black sand, the threshold audio will null out. You can 'trace' the outer boundary of that more mineralized spot and then pan it , sluice it, dredge it, high-back it, etc., etc.
